Yeah, but even within ourselves we tend to be fragmented in some ways. If there was a map of the US called "the californian's view of the US" it would be L.A. and New York, then everything in the middle would be labeled "A bunch of hicks". Conversely, the "Middle American's View of the US" would make disparraging remarks about the "coast" cities.  Hell, here in California we like to make fun of the people that live inland - we call em all sorts of names "desert bros", the "dirt people", etc...

Nacho hit the nail on the head - it's all relative. For some people "the world" can be a little town that they've never left.
