I'm thinking about removing my Fuel Injection and going back to the conventional carburator setup.

The carb would be a Edelbrock 1806 650cfm

I still have my origional mopar distributer and 8000 rpm ECM.

I hear a lot of people talk MSD or mallory but I don't really know if they are worth the money. (just driving and screwing around - no drag racing)

What do you think?  Pros and Cons.

Ghoste

I like mine (MSD) for the easier starts, hotter spark (I can run a little hotter coil with it and open the plugs slightly), the rev limiter, and no more ballast resistor.
The cons- it ain't cheap.

Hi Steve. My Hemi has the MSD 6A system (with Promax carb). Great reliability; that's what I put a premium on and it lives up to it.

I've had a 383 with the MSD setup and it was 100% reliable. But no experience with Edelbrock.

My Hemi uses the 8387 model, got to be identical to the 8386 for RBs. Again, it has been bulletproof. At $379 seems like a good price.

i would just run a regular MP distributor...      MSD is nice but not worth the extra $$$...    The internals of the newer MP dizzys are produced by Mallory anyway...

I was thinking the same....just got one in and love it!  :2thumbs:

just run the stock electronic distributor with an msd 6a or 6al box.  the aftermarket distributor is not needed on the average car. you can get kits to change the timing curve on the stock distributor.

question is will you get an old one off the shelf when you order one or will you get one of the newer ones??

Since most ran out of stock recently you will get a new type...I found 1 at Jegs.

Ghoste

The changeover to Mallory supplying them was a few years back now.  Unless the place you get it from has had it in storage for a very long time there chouldn't be a problem.

Thanks guys.

I went out and found my Mopar distributor and 8000 RPM ECM.

I will just go with that for now and upgrade to the MSD unit I posted above if the need arises.

That's what I did on the Daytona.....but the rest of the MSD is still pricey....plus I had to get the tach adapter also...that was another $80
