Hey had a question about the mono leaf spring...is that an alternative/improvement for the regular leaf spring or does that have to be used in conjuction with the caltracs system. Is the whole mono leaf/caltracs a good idea if you want to just do some street driving? Thanks guys...

I noticed a few cars on the road with a mono leaf and cal-trac system but never had a chance to talk to them. I heard that they are great on the track it really improves your 60 foot.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing.
68 Charger, slowly in the works, 451 c.i. approx. 535 hp @ the flywheel, so far best time in the 1/4
11.21 @ 119 mph, full exhaust, stock suspension, 4:10s @ 3640 pounds.

Try picking up a set of factory 6/7 leaf springs, and it'll make you wanna switch to 'glass leaves just for the unsprung weight reduction alone.

Yea I know the factory leaves are real heavy but what are glass leaves??? dont know if Im missing something here? Cheers

Fiberglass monoleafs have been around as long as these cars have.

They've been put into all kinds of serious uses in cars & trucks over the years; they don't seem to be fragile or anything.

I am gonna try the caltracs, on the phone with them I asked how the ride was and they repied it was fine, LOL I get back to ya on that...here is the rear ready to go in.  My car is getting painted this month, then over winter everything will be reassembled.

Entire setup (less Axle) was $960 shipped including Adj rear shocks.

Just curious...how are they for handling ...the unsprung weight reduction is attractive but how do they actually corner>

Their ability to handle corning loads is dependant upon the rate you specify. I think cal-trac is offer rates up to 225#, which is darn stout. For reference, a stock XHD is around 140, and a SS spring is around 160-180#

A number of vendors offer fiberglass mono-leaves; Addco, Landrum, Speedway and probably a few others. They actually retain accurate rates better than steel springs for longer. However, if you nick, abraid, or create stress riser in them, they can fail as the glass delaminates.

The difference in weight between a traditional pack is significant. The difference between a steel mono and a fiberglass mono is less significant, but still different. If you do go with a mono leaf, you will need some device to prevent wrap up be it a Cal-trac, Slide-a-link, or a snubber. The extra leaves of a traditional pack resist this motion pretty well, but the mono leafs loose a lot of this resistance simple by their design. The fiberglass springs ability to retain its shape means it will wheel hop more violently than its multi-leaf counter part if it is not controlled.
