Has anyone tried any of these dash caps? are they  hard to install? are they worth anything, or would you be wasting your money???

Years ago I put on a mini pickup and it worked great!  :2thumbs:

I had one once.  It was green shag carpet that I made myself.  Looked great and my sunglasses would always stay put.  I'm fairly certain that it was a chick magnet too.  It looked so good that shortly thereafter I upgraded the dash with lots of that chrome prism tape. Man I miss the 1970's...

jaak

I put one in my 73 Rallye.... it looks decent for the money, looks better than a cracked up pad. Definately wouldnt use in a show car, but looks good for a driver.

Thanks jake for reply

I have one in my 68 but it isn't glued down so it flies off if I stomp the gas. I'm not sure what a cap costs these days but you can get a real nice reproduction pad for $225 from BE&A. I bought a cap for my Barracuda and didn't like it.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I have a cap on my dash - it works great for a driver quality car...

Hey jaak, you have the two amber lights on your dash.  I realize one's for the 4 gear but is the other one for the seat belt upgrade like in 1970?  If so may I ask what color the belts & seats are?  Do you have any pix of the clasps'?

Thanks.

Theorically original tuff wheel cars got an extra seatbelt light there, because theorically the smaller wheel diameter doesn't allow you a clear view of the warning light above the cluster.

Suposelly standart 3 spokes wheel cars didn't got that one.

Interesting, didn't know that.  Thanks Iñaki.

As you may know, in '70 the selt belt upgrade got the warning light on the dash.  For whatever reason I don't know.

I was just curious about the clasps and whether they were the same from '70.  Do you know or have any pix of them for a 3rd generation?

mmm, maybe because 70 B bodies didn't got a seatbelt light anywhere ( I think 70 E bodies did )  :shruggy: dunno, but as far I know is a fact on 71s and laters

Then, on 71 ( pretty sure 70s too ) the seatbelt light was driven by the time delay flasher, so just one wire arriving ( positive ) for a while negative was chassis.

Not sure if the bezel shape will meet on 70 and 71 dash

SINCE 72, positive was constant and negative was the switched source, so socket is plastic and gets 2 wires.

Maybe it was like the lock out for the 4 gears.  Engineers couldn't come up with an idiot light for the cluster so it was an after thought?  I could see them now, "Hey, let's stick it on the dash next to the lock out light".  ;)
And why only the light for the upgrade, why not standard?

I'd like to see a picture of how the shoulder belts were attached up on the roof too.  Was there a different set up for the upgraded belt clasps?
