Differences of 1965 727 Transmisson and later (1969)

Hi,
Hope maybe some person here could help me. Want to swap the transmission (727) from my 69 charger to my 64 dodge who have a 1965 727 transmission. The 1965 727 is shifting with push buttons...

The only differences I have hear of is numbers splines?

you wont be able to retain the push button set up unless it is a push button style transmission (the cases are different) push button style has an internal cable connection, non push button transmissions are lever operated

But did they operate the 727 trans 1965 with push botton? My car have a 1965 727.

i think both styles were available in 65 but shortly after the push button style was discontinued.......however, i could be mistaken

also, there are some internal differences between the push button trans and the standard style....i'm not sure if these differences are across the board or just on specific models....the old 65 727 i had was drastically different than the 72 model i have now.

I think all US Mopars switched in 1965.  However there is an excellent write-up about PB trans at AllPar.
Even a section about converting the newer 727 so push buttons can be utilized.

cool, thanks ODZ, I'll have to check that out, I didn't know there was a conversion.  Did anyone ever come up with a way to use a PB style without the push button set up?  That was the reason I got rid of the one I had, wouldn't work with the B&M in the charger.

I'm not sure there is a kit, but it says there is a Canadian transmission builder (Doug Miller of Fireball Performance Automatics in Williamsburg, Ontario) who has successfully converted these to shift via cable linkage as was the practice through 1965, thereby allowing owners of older MoPars to use this newer transmission and keep their pushbuttons.
So I am going to assume it can be done.  I just googled it and he has a website:

Imperial Services makes a changeover to allow the use of the '62-'64 pushbuttons to operate a '66 and later transmission.

Schumacher makes a conversion rear mount to fit the '66 and later into a '62-'65 B body.

'66 and earlier 727's have a 19-spline input shaft, '67 and later are 24-spline.
