Hey gang..
I'm trying to get the feel for what's going on, if anyone has contacted Time-Warner for permission, yada, yada, yada..

Our former club logo had the road runner in it. A few years ago, we dropped it because of trademark issues..

Is anyone using the road runner logo on their t-shirts with permission. Yes, for the rebels, we could just do it, but I want to be on the up and up. We are designated as a non-profit organization through the state of Texas. I believe this allows up to use the "Mopar" brand name for t-shirts because they aren't sold for profit, only as part of our membership.
Being the President of the club, I really don't want to open a can of worms against me and/or the club.

Thanks for any input..

It's real cold out there. The TW website cites a ton of restrictions...
My take is that if you ask their legal department the answer is likely no, if you ask the community relations department it could be considered good PR and a winner for TW (ie what's in it for them). "Non-commercial" and community affairs go together, but legal is all about the money.

I have had personal experience with the NY Times and using copyright material for my business. The Times approved with a small condition, I was shocked when I received the "express written permission". So TW may be open to the club due to its non-profit nature. Nothing lost if it's a no for an answer.

Hope it works out for you and the members.

It's easier to get forgiveness than permission.

What were the issues?

You will probably be ok if you use any of the old Mopar logos with Roadrunner in them. If you come up with something new with a road runner then there could be a problem.

Probably wont generate any problems with 40 shirts made for club members. Print 40000 and start selling in the back of Mopar Magazine and then it gets attention.

I forget what it is legally called but theres somethings out there that art work is released for limited use.  Like a big newspaper ad for  say a autoparts store. With all the little logos of various products on the ad page. The printer doesnt have to get permission from Valvoline to use the V logo for Big Joes Auto Parts sale page. They can just use the logo in the ad.    Now if you start a new parts store called Valvoline Auto Parts and start using the Oil Logo your ass is in a jam. Your shirts may fall under this if you use the old Mopar Logos.

Being a small non-profit organization may help get away with it, But trademark infringement is punishable by law.so proceede carefully

Mopar paid a royalty fee for every roadrunner sold, same as Pontiac paid royalties to the trans-am series for the use of the name.
I can't speak on Mopars  and TW's arrangement but Pontiac paid $5 in royalties for 'each' Transam sold
