Guys,

I have a 440 Charger, 4 speed 833.  I had the tranny gone through b/c it had a leak, nothing was replaced, everything checked out.  I put a new clutch on it, same centerforce dual friction.  Now it is very hard to shift.  I used to be able to run it up to 5000 and it would just slip into 2nd and 3rd like butter.  Now it's like I hit a wall going into 2nd.  When I am sitting at a light.  I can't put it into gear.  I have to step on the clutch, and wait 3-5 seconds before it will go into gear.  Everyonce in a while I will be at a light, push in the clutch, go to put it in 3rd and it will grind like hell.  There is no clutch chatter, it works fine, but shifts hard as hell.

I have checked the shifter alignment.  I have checked the amount of clutch I have in it, I have played with the amount fo clutch, given it more and less.  Nothing has helped.  I had my old centerforce in there for 40K miles with no problems.  I am thinking the clutch just isn't right.

Any ideas?  Why when I run the car up to 5000 will it not just slip in gear, seems like it should.

Thanks

It sounds to me like the clutch fork is not pushing the throw out bearing in quite far enough,  :shruggy:

I have the clutch adjusted so the throw out bearing is as close as possible to the fingers.  I really can't give it any more clutch.  I have also tried to back it out and give it less, doesn't seem to help.  Sometimes when I am driving slow in 1st gear and shift gently into 2nd, it is hard to pull out of gear.

Is there a reason why the clutch wouldn't release?

Did you try the clutch plate on the tranny splines before you fitted it to make sure it wasn't too tight?

Yes I tried slipping the clutch over the splines, it fit fine.

I have never checked the run out of the bellhousing on the car, I converted it from an automatci about 10 years and 40k miles ago, but then again i have never had a problem like this before, do you guys think I need to do this.

I go under the car and had my wife step on the clutch and I can spin the clutch disc no problem.
