Sway bar question

C500

I've searched this site, and it seems there is only one size sway bar for a 69. My Car is a C500, so same spec as an R/T. I'm rebuilding the front suspension, and most places need to know what size sway bar it has for bushings. It seems there is two sizes: 15/16 or 7/8. Different bushing sizes here http://www.magnumhp.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=190 and http://www.magnumhp.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=191 I can't nip out and measure, my car is a couple of hours drive away. Any help appreciated.

The original sway bar for a 69 is 15/16" or .094"

The first link that shows 7/8" is the correct triangle style bushing that fits the original 68-69 only brackets.....the second link shows the 70 & up style bushing.
Looks like part # 5.5129 G (G is for black) is the # you need in Energy Suspension

Heres a handy instruction sheet.....the only thing they dont tell you to do is load up on beer when you try and get these in!!!

Those factory rubber bushings on the front sway bar mounts (to the K-frame) are one of the biggest bitches to remove of anything on the car.  You're probably gonna destroy the old ones to get them out.  And then if you're lucky you will only half-destroy the new ones going back in.

I learned from another member here that if you cut the bracket you can slide the new bushing in place and then re-weld the bracket.  I did it on my car and it worked good.

Is there a source for bushing and bracket assembly, that replicates the look of the '68 version?  Besides a junkyard, I mean.

One of my brackets has a torn eyelet.

Are we talking about guitar strings?  I measured my '69 R/T, and it is .953"--very close to 15/16" as mentioned before.

Yea, I think Chris meant to say .94 not .094.

I have a question for Shakey about cutting and welding the brackets. It sounds as if you're welding it with the bushings in place since you wouldn't really gain anything otherwise so how do you do that without overheating and therefore compromising the bushing?

I'm glad to have found this thread because I was just about to start one asking how in the heck to you replace sway bar bushings? I'm baffled as to why Chrysler's engineers chose to build them this way, as if sway bar bushings never wear out. I mean I know they didn't intend for these cars to last forever but come on guys. Seriously?

Back N Black

If you are not concerned about looking original, i used a set of bushings on the original sway bar from energy suspension, fits real nice and are greaseable.

Yea, I can always get an aftermarket setup from Firm Feel. I'll decide soon enough.

I just ordered the exact same set. Good to know they're good ones!
