I currently have a 318 in my '68 Charger and have recently decided purchase a new one. I guess what I have is two choices:

1) I can stick with a small block like a stroked out 360 or
2) I can go all out with a big block.

I know because I currently have a small block it would just be a matter of swapping out the old for the new. With the big block I know I'll have to replace the transmission and probably get a new drive shaft. Is there any thing else I need to replace? I think I read somewhere that the K frame won't be an issue unless you have a 3rd gen.

Can you guys just let me know what else I need to do or change if I decide to go with a big block? Thanks. Any suggestions will be greatly apprciated.

I've had very good months these past few months despite the recession so the cost of a big block is not that big of an issue unless it starts to run me over 10K for everything which I know it shouldn't.

Exhaust system
Radiator
maybe larger fuel lines

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I vote for the Big Block  :2thumbs: will need a BB Radiator as stated.

Ok so the list of changes I need to make if I want to get a big block so far is:

transmission
driveshaft
radiator
fuel lines
exhaust system

Is there anything else I need?

As I said before, I own a '68 Charger so the K Frame won't be issue, correct? The only thing I need to worry about the on the K Frame is installing the frame mounts for the big block, right?

just to be different , than going the B/RB motor swap  :scratchchin:  what about them mopar crate motors ... small blocks  with  402 & 440 cubes :yesnod: ..sure would cause a few supprises ..shutting down a few big blocks , & when the hood is popped , your motor looks almost like a stock 318 to the untrained eye  :coolgleamA:  less weight up front aso  :yesnod:

depending on how you intend to drive it,  for a "stock" ride you should consider the proper torsion bars....also, the BB's usually had a group 27 battery, not the group 24...also, power steering pump setup may be different...

Not sure what PS pump was used on the 318 in 68 but on my 69 it was the early saginaw just like the BB has.  Mounts are different for BB.  SB will usually have 10 inch drums all way around.  Would want to put disc's on front and consider P. Booster.  Hemi springs in back.  I think they still had the 8-3/4 rear in 68 but would probably want to change the rear end ratio with BB.  Driveshaft can probably be shortened.  I'am thinking that the BB's usually had 7290 yokes where the SB's had 7260 yokes.  Could keep the 14 inch wheels with discs if stay with 10.87 inch discs.  O/W, would need 15 inch wheels to clear the calipers.

if yuor smart use all 69 or 70 p/s setup, pulley, pumps as the 68 stuff is near to impossible to find especially the high pressure p/s hose

I would say go big block, but that's pretty much because I'm very partial to them. Ease wise, I'd say look into a SB stroker.... Want have to change over a bunch of stuff, and they run too.... On the other hand, depending on how "wild" you get with the sb stroker, you may have to change stuff anyways... Just something to think about. Just for reference, check these out:

Well, the wife is being herself right now, so I shall return to the cave, hope these links give you an idea or two.... If you do decide to keep the small block, you shouldn't have to worry about changing over a bunch of the suspension parts to equate for the added weight of it...

If I had the money, I'd love to have one of these sitting in my Charger, lol: http://www.worldcastings.com/products/hemi-572-complete-engines.html :D
