been pondering some ideas lately. what would happen if i took a set of .030 440 pistons and installed them in a standard bore 400 motor?? :scratchchin: i am thinking it would up the compression to something more usable then the awesome 8.2:1 that it starts out with, but how much and will it work? the skirts and pin location look like i would have no clearance issues so for a budget build i am thinking i might give it a shot as most of the parts needed are already on hand. anybody ever tried it before?

A .030 oversize 440 slug is too big to fit in a stock 400 bore....by about 10 thousandths.  ;)

I read awhile back that this had been done but don't remember all the details off hand...

has been done as far I know, but the standart 400 bore is 440 020 not 030. I THINK has been done with "smoggers" 440 pistons ( post 72 ), not the earliers.

you have another options though ( KB240s for example )
