I actually lived in Ukraine for first 14 years of my life until I've moved here....it's rather interesting experience.
No offense, but Kiev has to be the most depressing town I've ever visited, and coldest too...

If you ever need to see something really spooky, guys, go see Chernobyl and Pripyat. The term "ghost town" doesn't really ring true anywhere else...

I bet you visited in Winter. Ukraine is very similar to NW, gets 4 seasons and gets a lot of snow just like WA

Been outside of the USA quite a bit in my life. Lived in Bangkok Thailand for 14 months, lived in Chiang Mai Thailand for 6 years. Does that count?

been to Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal,Morocco,Mexico,Columbia,Venezuela, all over the Caribbean, and being that I live in Detroit area, visiting Canada is like driving across town. spent 5 weeks driving out west due to it's vastness that was like being in another country. been all over the U.S. including Hawaii. I can speak and understand enough French and Spanish language to get by in any country that speaks those languages. We love to travel and experience the way others on this planet live.

Yep, mid-February. That, the miserable cold and the fact that we got "billeted" in the oldest section of the city combined in a pretty depressing backdrop for the trip. Everybody kept telling us it was a lot nicer in the summer, and I tend to believe that. Thinking about going back next year, Pripyat should look beautiful when everything is green...
