Now i may be taking things to far, but now i have derusted and cleaned my parking brake cables, it appears that they are as good as new. The question is, were these just bare steel when new? They looked like it, but just wanted to confirm they were not plated or similar.

Must post some progress pics soon ::)

Bare steel. If you bead blasted them they will look too shiny. To fix that give them a light wire wheel and then some light oil/preservative like Mopar MP50.

Cool, thanks. I didn't blast them, dont think it would do them much good with grit everwhere! I dropped them in a bucket of rust remover and they came out like new :)

I guess i'll have to expect them to slowly go rusty again. Even with oil on them, it will get washed off eventually. I though about shooting some clear over them, but as the flex i think it will flake off?
