I may be forced to sell my XP 383 - 727 '68.  Two questions; what should I be asking for and when is the best time to sell? I assume the second quarter, April, May, June is the best time to sell.

Second owner 1968 Charger XP.
Race shop rebuilt 383, bored .30 now 389, High Pro - Hughes Racing Stage One heads, Cam, and custom ported RPM intake. Eddy 750 4 bbl, 4 core alum radiator, MSD distributor, Hooker Competition jet coated headers.  Professional body work and paint recently completed.  Original interior in fair shape; bucket seats and floor console.

Drives great, recently drove it on a 650 trip.

If you need to sell it I suggest you start now. If you don't have to sell until spring then that gives you the best opportunity to see what the market is doing and hang on to your wanted price longer to try and find your buyer. Plus you will have the advantage of seeing what the market is without being pressured into a corner.

If unemployment continues as the reports I have seen, it's going to be well into next year before the rate starts to fall. I have been involved in trying to move my grandfathers home for the past 2 yrs... it seems it is FINALLY going to sell at 2/3 its appraised value. Such is life.

Good luck, and use the For Sale section. Actually monitor it for what has sold and not and how long.

Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait just one minute! This is the Charger that you do 140 mph, right? The trip was only 4 and 1/2 hours at that speed! Hmmm, not so sure the car hasn't been used up. :nana:

Just joking! Love everything about it. You could ask high 20's, but a sale is more like low 20s. :'( My guess is that you're best just getting it out there on the market, now. It may be 6 months before the right buyer shows up, why delay? A legit buyer could already have been shopping for a year or two, money in hand. Waiting until April-June is betting on a impulse buyer ("nice weather, I'll buy a muscle car"). Does the impulse buyer have their finances lined up? ?  ? ?   So I'd say get it listed everywhere right away. :Twocents:

I bought mine during the winter during valentines weekend.   The weather didnt keep me from taking a plane flight

If ur gunna sell it (even in the spring)  I would post it so that you can make time for out of state buyers time to take time to see it.  Its a lengthy process

Took me about 2-3 weeks to book a flight
1 weekend to visit the owner
1 more week to transport the vehicle.

Show some more pictures..... If you put a little money into the interior, you'll most likely jump the value up.  What other history, information do you have.  Have original engine on hand?  Trans?  Need to give more info.  I've seen some 68's get a high dollar amount even recently.

You really dont want to hear this, I just bought my 72 a few months ago. Mopars that were for sale then, are still for sale now. Prices are pitifully low. Even lower if you have to sell. Finding a buyer at a good price is going to be near impossible. There are so many cars for sale to choose from, some people who have to sell are practically giving them away. That brings the prices down on any others that have to sell.

My advice is dont sell it right now if anyway possible. I would not be surprised if you dont get any real, I mean real buyers, that offer more than $20. A have to sell price is going to be around that number. Just from what I have seen, being in the recent market.

Good luck, and keep it if you can.

I have to agree with Paul too.  Your car is sweet, but with that being said, I am thinking high teens to twenty max.  Now is just a bad time to sell.  And as a current looker I can find sweet R/T's in the low 20's.  Good luck with your sale.

I've bought and sold more cars in the winter than I have in the summer... especially in the era of internet classifieds.

Lots of folks stuck in the house just surfin' the classifieds this time of year.

Mid 20s seems to be the going rate for nice, rust free 383 cars, but it may take you a while to find that buyer.

This may sound stupid to some people but if you need to sell ASAP. Put it on Ebay this week. Barrett Jackson auction is on this week also which won't hurt your chances. I was just searching on there and they are going for top dollar to me in this market.

Just last week on E-Bay there was a very nice triple black 69 Hemi Charger R/T.  It was an original J code car with a non numbers matching hemi.  Bidding ended at $42,000.00.  That car has dropped over 50% in the past couple years.

What you have is a good starting point.

2 easy additions:
1 - Location and contact information. (Its amazing how many folks who advertise on the web leave that out  :brickwall: ) You have implied you are near Pittsburgh but the southwestern corner of PA is pretty big.
2 - A boatload of pics. Lots of pics sells cars on the net... Otherwise folks just move on and/or you get barraged with email for more pics. Use a website rather than sending them to every query via email.

What the bidding ends and who hits buy it now is erelevant.  My buddy listed his restored Ford PU with a buy it now of 7K.  Someone hit the buy it now, sent him a check for 12k asking him to send a check to a shipper at a PO box.  My buddy took the check to the bank and told the buyer he would send the shipper money as soon as the check cleared.  You guessed it the check was bogus.  He has to relist his truck.  There are some real scum out there!
As for price, I sold a very nice QQ1 #s matching 68 with 383/727 for 19k in December.  I thought the car was worth at least 25k.  I had to sell in order to buy my Daytona clone so I took a bit of a loss :Twocents:  I know I am happy with the Daytona.  I think George will be happy with the 68.  I could have waited to get my price but then the Daytona would have been gone.  It's all in the timming!!!

You seems to have put some money into that car, if you are not in a desperat need of money I would wait. Also like stated before,
a fresh interior always gives a good impression and doesn't cost that much.

I've been looking or a 71/72 BB Charger for six months with no luck. My only other Charger choice would be a black 68 BB Charger. Your 68 gives me some serious wood. Unfortunately the 2nd gens are out of my price range.

I know it doesn't help matters . But I know of a real 1968 Charger R/T , decent car runs and drives nice with no issues. I'm pretty sure this car can be bought in the very high teens ( very low 20's max) and yet it sits.

It seems sales are very intermittant, and hands down beauty is in the eye of the buyer.

if it needs to go, start high and start Now

Thanks for all of your thoughts and advice.
I've posted my Charger for sale in the Swap Meet.
I suppose I will try E-bay and the local paper.
Perhaps also Auto Trader.
