Hi everyone,

I put a 4 speed in my Charger. It originally had a 3 speed manual then someone put in an automatic. When they put it in they changed the wiring harness to the auto type.

I want to buy a repro harness for the manual transmission. Year one has two listed. One is for 68 models, and one is for late 68/ early 69 models built after 11/15/68.

How do I determine the date without a build sheet or fender tag? My car was built at the Hamtramck plant according to the VIN, and its #295153.

Thanks,

John D

You cannot go by the vin as to a build date, but in this case it is not important. All '68 Chargers were built by June 30, 1968. July 1, 1968 was the '69 model year start. So go with the '68 model repo harness according to the repro harness manufacturer. :2thumbs:

I cannot fathom why the vendor would specify a late '68 built after 11/15/68. The Inland switch over to Hurst shifters was late in the '68 production schedule and in that sense the harnesses could be different to support the back-up light, but why the 11/15/68 date? I'll have to research this.  :scratchchin:

Excellent! Thanks Dan.

I wonder if there were some other B bodys that were built at a later date? I called year one to find out about the harness, but their tech department is "no  more" according to the guy on the phone. I emailed them anyway and haven't received a reply yet. Maybe the guy was right and the website hasn't been changed yet.
