I do believe there was a Tide victory.  Leave it to SEC football to derail a forum about Chargers

Definitely an Old Timer

I remember the very first letter that I had from Tim Fennell back in 1981 when I was Canadian director of the old Mopar Muscle Club and he was the British director of the same club.

He ended the letter "let's kill the Dukes of Hazzard"

He's still right, nearly 30 years later.

He's wrong.

The Dukes if really what is saving the old chargers bow days as folks like the charger when they see it on the show, maybe they make a General Lee of there own or maybe they paint the car the color they like, anyway dang way you look at it, it's still saving a charger from the grave yard. I have a feeling if there was no Dukes of Hazzard that alot of the chargers would be gone probly by now.

I always like the Chargers for it's body style, and I just so happen am also a General Lee fan and it's also a charger so kinda of both worlds.

I just hate it when a charger gets killed for an event like this when we all know that with places like AMD where we can get almost all the pieces to fix the charger up insteand of killing it.

Mike DC

It's easy to point to wrecked cars that are all nicely cataloged on film.

It's impossible to count the # of people that show brought into the hobby, directly and indirectly.

My comment at that time was provoked by the fact that I owned a Charger, which I was struggling to make better, and seeing the SENSELESS destruction of what looked like better condition cars than mine in a BAD TV show (Daisy Duke and Roscoe and Flash honourable exceptions). Even more senseless now....

TiMopar

I should add that I do agree with MoparManJim that the DOH has brought many people to the hobby and probably, ironically saved many Chargers that may otherwise have died. Good luck to you Dukes fans, just not my cup of tea.....

Mike DC

Hey, if it makes you feel any better, the DOH prop cars were nothing to envy.  Very raggedy up close, even the designated "closeup" cars.

:icon_smile_wink:

Brock Lee

I know a redneck that has a 68 Charger badly painted like a General Lee parked beside his mobile home. He has owned it maybe 15 years now and it hasn't legally been on the road one of those years. He tinkers on it here and there, but I see no progress. Infact I see it degrading as its only protection is a tarp. His skills are also lacking and the work is shoddy, makeshift, and to be blunt, half-assed. In another couple years it wont be salvageable. He absolutely will not sell it to someone who has the means to fix it, proclaiming he is currently restoring it. I often wonder how many are being killed quietly in the same manner across this nation.

Mike DC

There are a lot of cars dying like that.  Tons of them.

But the GL identity doesn't share the blame for this.  Not these days.  The average Charger with a GL paintjob is no more likely to be rotting away unloved than any other Charger.

MoparManJim

Well I guess another charger will die again  :icon_smile_dissapprove: http://www.cglfc.com/wforum/viewtopic.php?t=22579

I'm feeling sorry for the poor chargers.

There not even jumping them kinda, there more like running them off a hill top (look at how big that dirt pile is). At least TB had ramps at his 03 event.

Tilar

Maybe we could all get together and jump a 69 Camero R/S.  :2thumbs:

Nah, I wouldnt even want to do that. Maybe a Pacer! Those things were a disaster waiting to happen anyway.
Dave

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

I know where there is a 69 just rotting away in a barn garage. I talked to the owners several times to sell it and they flat out refuse. The old man said there isn't any amount of money that would convince him to sell. I discovered the car after doing some yard work and after asking about it I was promptly told I wasn't needed any more. I talked to some old timers who know the guy and they say it has not run or moved from the barn since 82. That is more of a shame than jumping any car in my opinion. At the very least those cars went out in style...instead of quietly rotting away waiting for the roof to cave in on you.

Looks like they're gonna jump a '70 based on what the poster says. What a waste. :rotz:

Remember, he says these are past the point of being fix. If there that gone, then they are not safe to jump either.  :shruggy:

Someday, someone like him, is going to be looking for a original charger to fix up and guess what, they can thank people like him that jumps them each year for not alot being left then. Maybe then they can remember back to when a guy jump a charger off a hill top or in front of a crowed.

Not sure about this year, but the poster shows the last two years were 1970 chargers
I'd rather die than go to heaven.

I just read this in the comments, I hope its right

"I talked to the guy who played Boss Hogg that night and ask if the car was restorable and he said "no, we never jump a car that can be restored, it looked like swiss cheese when we got it and the frame was worse".

Steal it.  Now you know its been out of registration for over 7 yrs.  State purges records on classic cars between 5-7 yrs.  I wonder if that would work.  If so I've found a new hobby, BARN CRUSADER!  :smilielol:

I wouldnt advocate stealing but it is a shame for real. It was very low miles on it and the paint was covered with a black sooty stuff and the tires were rotted off of it. oddly enough though no rust and it looked like a good car wash would bring it back.

People saying "These cars are all screwed up anyway" should have their balls put in any device you would see in any of the "Saw" movies.   :slap:   Obviously, there are a lot of good enough parts to use on the restoration of other projects.  Jeeeeez....I've seen some really ragged out cars, in this forum mind you, that have been resurrected and brought up to exceptional standards.  The "Car in a box" topic is one that I can think of.  Long story short....if these cars are in good enough shape to drive and jump, then they are DEFINATELY good enough to restore!!!

I guess but what can you do... if you tried to plead with them they would probably tell you to go put your nuts in one of those aforementioned devices you were talking about.

Hell, I seen one guy on one of the boards I'm on, get a charger out of a water almost junkyard, the charger was all rotted up, but that dude took that charger and turn it around.

Some of the so called dead chargers I have seen fix up and back togother even before AMD wa around. So they say these chargers are no good are full of it and all they want to do is just take the charger and jump the dang things is all. But whats going to happen is someday they are going to have one that pose to be to far gone hit the ramp and give right there before it even leaves the ramp or dirt hill.
