My header just burnt through my speedometer cable...

The first question is how do you get it off of the speedometer?

Secondly, while I search for a new one should I take the old one off.

Third, would the speedometer cable from a 1970 new yorker work in the place of a chargers?

well if its like any other speedo cable ive removed it will thread onto the back of your cluster so take that out, and the other end threads onto the trans, from my experience

As for the speedo cable, there is a plastic tab that you push in towards the center of the cable (on the end farthest from the guage)and just pull the cable off, kinda like on the wire harnesses.  sometimes they are a pain, reaching in lying under the dash, but they come off fairly easy, to put it back on just push the cable on until you feel/hear the "click" and it's on.
