I got home from work last Friday and the wife told me two guys drove up in a 69 Charger R/T wanting to look at my car (69 Charger sunroof).  I was out so they will be coming back this Saturday to have another look.  One of them wants to buy it.  Mind you....this car is not for sale unless he can cover sentimental value in the offer.  Of course everything has the right price I just need help with that.  It is a 69 Sunroof Charger,  383 2bbl car,  R4 Red with black vinyl top, numbers match on the motor.  The car is really rough...needs the usual trunk, floor, quarters, etc however it does run good and drive.  The guy may offer a trade (not sure what).  I would consider a trade for a 69 in much better shape than mine.  I do not have the funds that this car deserves so it might be a good option. I have finally learned that "a man's got to know his limitations" (can anyone tell me what classic movie I ripped that quote from?) I realized that my Charger (68 R/T) was too great a project for me as well, so now I have a very straight, original '66 Satellite and am happy as a clam.

I agree...the good thing is that I can walk away with no regrets as I did not ask anyone to come and make an offer.  If it was yours...how much would you take?  The car is one of 391 Sunroof cars around...not a most desirable hemi option but rare with its own merits.

Think it through thoroughly before you make a decision and then say " well I use to have.." or "I wish I never" I have heard these statements more than I can count....Good luck with your decision and I havent forgot what you did for me.. !

In my experience, door-knockers are rarely offering any real cash.  More often they see project while passing by and try to get a good deal from somebody that may have lost interest in a project, or doesn;t know what they have (rarely the case anymore).  I don;t mean to sound negative, but I wouldn;t get your hopes up that they'll offer you what you'd expect to get for it.

Thanks for the input...I say that to myself all the time now...I sold my 71 Air Grabber hood but still have the car   Needed the money though.  This case is different. It's not costing me anything (except garage space) to keep the car so I have more on my side.  By the way...how is you car coming??  Got any pics

I agree but there is a little more to who this person is than I have time to type about.  Short version...The guy is a friend of a previous owner of the car.  The previous owner owns a resto shop down the street from me called Street Dreams. From what i hear it is a $15K paint job type of resto shop.  Anyway it is a friend of his who is also in the business who says he HAS to have a sunroof Charger so who knows....your probably right...will probably waste my time and kick the tires.  It will be worht it to have another 69 in the driveway though!

My ragged old 70 seems to elicit offers constantly being a daily driver and it kinda gets annoying sometimes. There has never been a "for sale" sign on it yet constantly I get asked if it is for sale? The first couple years I realized most are JERKS! They all want to "give" you 700.00 and an old 75 Buick for it. The people that just want to comment or talk about it don't bother me at all.....but I've never asked to buy something that's not for sale why would they? The answer is greed, the offers are always stupid. Now I just respond with "if I sold it to you WHAT would I drive?" it seems to shut them up. We deal with cars that if we were to sell....would never just jump on some pudding heads lowball offer, but they try anyway. Just last month my son and I came out of a grocery store and were approached by a guy with a gas can asking for "gas money"...when he saw me getting in my Charger he ran back over and asked if it was for sale!!! Don't expect anything realistic from these guys and if anything tighten up your security because you my have been "cased" for a rip off sadly. Solicitation is a warning that something is off most of the time. Yes I have friends who have been ripped off that way to the point of when he did not entertain their low offer they came back and broke every window in the car! Make certain you mention to them you have a video recorder on it even if you don't and always get the plate number of anyone who just "shows up" if it is not for sale.

A sunroof/ power moonroof can be added to any Charger. If it saved me 20k in bodywork and years of aggravation, I'd start with the more solid car. "Rare" is a synonym for "expensive/ potentially impossile to repair". If he offers you a cleaner car, take it and let him deal with the "rarity".

Make sure the cash is real. Poor kid here sold his car to someone that paid him with fake money. When he went down to register his next car with the cash he was detained. They did catch the guy that did this but he would have been long down the road if the kid had held on to the money and waited to buy a car. There's crummy folks everywhere. Makes life harder than it has to be. As for selling trust your woobie...that internal voice that tells you what you truly want.

                            A hemi engine can be added to any charger as well. The point is that it is a FACTORY sunroof car. Any option can be added to any car. But it still is considered a CLONE. Keep the car and when you have the time and money to restore it you'll be happy you hung on to her.

If you search craigslist i have come across three project 68-70 r/ts this week for 10K or less each

I even found a couple 68-70 r/t's on the road for around $15000 needing some work.

Don't fall into the hype that there are none left. Must be somewhere around 35 thousand r/t's built between 68-70

If i didn't have my 70 r/t project i'd be all over the 68

I paid 5k for mine with no motor/tranny and needs the works roof, 1/4's, trunk floor,tail panel, 1 fender,cowl, door hinge pillars already changed the full floor.

Only reason i bought was because it had the fender tag and body numbers all match and SURPRISEINGLY the unibody and all the frame rails were super solid.
I bought 2 years ago, guess i should have held off a little longer into the recession to buy :S

I fell better though cause i inquired about another 69 r/t needing everyting mine needs plus frame rails for 10k in NY.

I would trade it for a similar Charger that requires less work to restore, however i dont really see how/why someone would trade a better car for a worse one, unless he thinks its worth having a sunroof?
Also spending time, even if a handful of years on restoring whatever car you go with, will mean more and i would think you'd enjoy the car more, than one you hardly had to do any work too.

A lot of people are just talking out of their asses or just trying to rip you off anyway.  I was sitting by my car outside of work today and some guy offers me $3,000 for my car that's easily worth 5 times that amount; he tried to act like he was doing me a favor.  Whatever...

They may still come back & offer you something for it, but they may even be just fishing for a deal & ask you "How much do you want for it?" & wait to see if you know what you have. If you're seriously considering selling it, then it can't hurt to at least consider the offer if it isn't insulting, or take his phone number & save it. One more thing to also consider is that they weren't interested in buying anything & just casing your house, property, & car.
