camshaft choice? need some help here

i am going to put a new cam in my 440 and was wanting some input as what cam would be the best choice for me.  i have a 2500 rpm stall convertor, 4.10 gears a 770 cfm holley carb ( also have a 850 if need be), i plan on buying a single plain intake for it and i do not need to worry about vacuum because i have manual brakes and nuthing running off of the vacuum lines.  thanks for the help

Here's a question for ya, are u wanting roller of flat tappet? Hydraulic or mechanical? Also, what kind of idle do you want? What is your current engine combo? Factory, or modified (if mod, what all has been done on it)?

not much to the motor but .30 over upped comp a little to 10.8.  looking for a mechanical flat tappet just to keep the cost down and dont want hydralic so i have some stability in the lifters.  i would like a rough idle but whatever i get from the cam is fine, i am more geared towards the performance aspect

Sounds kind of strange, maybe I didn't read it right, dun know... The mechanical lifters will require you to get an adjustable valve train so you can set the lifter preload, back lash, ect. As for the hydraulic not being stable, don't see how that is, a lot of people are running them, just make sure you get a good anti pump up lifter and you should be fine. But since you say you want a mech flat tappet cam, and you're not worried about overall idle quality. I'll look around and see what I see, I'll post a couple of different options for you to compare to.

I know there are plenty other cams out there, I'll keep an eye out for some more of them, but that's just 3 that I figured that might catch your eye, there were others, most of them were marine cams though, so....
