Will a 440 engine fit in a 383 Dodge Charger?

I have a 440 engine from a 76 New Yorker. I want to put it in a 68 Charger that had an original 383 engine. Will the k frame fit? Will the engine mounts work?

I have seen all this. But until today, I have never seen such a pain in the ars car like this 68 Charger!

The 440 in 76 had low compression and H.P you may be better off with the 383 having said that, I dont know if the 440 is warmed over or if you plan to do anything else to it.

He said had a 383, so it's probably gone.  The 383 mounts would be the same, but the '76 mounts won't.

The problems I see you having are balance requirements for one.  That's probably a cast crank, and requires the appropriate balance weights on the torque converter, or a conversion flex plate with the weights if you don't have the converter from the car the motor came from.  Are you using the Charger 727 or the New Yorker trans?  The lower radiator hose probably enters the motor on the right side, and the Charger radiator exits the radiator on the left.  The electronic ignition from the New Yorker, or whatever you want to use, will be needed since the Charger was originally used points.  Electronic voltage regulator, too, or you can short one of the field terminals.  If the Charger has an H-pipe, the exhaust may give you problems if you are using the Charger's exhaust manifolds, and not fit at all if using the New Yorker manifolds.  Throttle linkage and throttle pressure linkage will be needed.  I don't know what the New Yorker would have used.  Last thing I can think of is the fan to radiator clearance.  You'll probably need a shorter fan spacer or shorter viscous fan.

Yes the 383 is gone. When I got the car a 2 years ago it is pretty much just the shell and small box of parts. I got the info about what motor was in it from ser #. Yes the 440 has the trans still attached. I found a good deal on craigslist . Ive been trying to find the time to work on it.  I just finished sand blasting the front last week.

I have a '71 383 original that I dropped a 440 in from a '78 new yorker, so it will work.  Do yourself a favor and get rid of the 452 heads if your rebuilding the motor and increasing the compression, or it will ping like crazy.
