69 OUR/TEA

My first 69 I bought in 1990  was a 69,F8,green top, white int,A/C,six way seat, power windows, power disc brakes, and more.Kept it until 97 when I was getting married and buying a house. You know what happens next,it was for sale.A friend long wanted it,so it went to him.He then a few years later also had to sell, and sells it locally. Some time goes by,he calls me to tell me he can see the car from his second floor apartment a few houses down and says he's going to check it out.Calls me back to say that current owner just sold it and it's going to Canada. Not staying local anymore, probably never see or hear anything of it again.
  UNTIL TODAY !!!!!
Upon casual conversation with Chris about options and such,I mention that my first one was pretty loaded, and then my curiousity struck,I ask if he recalls such a car in his registry and describe the way it was when it left to Canada.Figured if it was on this forum,I definitely would have recognized it.Gets back to let me know that there is one in his registry that sounds like it,links me to the owners website about the car, just one look and I knew it was it.Now,the bigger question ,is he a member here?ABSOLUTELY!!!!Turns out I have been looking at my old 69 in his avatar for some time .It was great to connect with him, share more info on the car for him,and know that the car that left the U.S. is well on its way being restored!!!!I'm sure he'll drop in with a reply on who he is.Here are the only three pics I have from that car.......

Jeez, it sure was nice looking back then.

Soon, it will be nice again.

Small world, isn't it? I'm glad you made the connection. It's always good to know about the past life of your Charger. Meeting good MOPAR folks is icing on the cake.

and thanks for the pictures!

dodgecharger-fan

It had the same wheels on it when I got it, too.

Stupid me, I gave them to the guy that did the hack job on the frame rails and body.

69 OUR/TEA

No problem Dave, glad to know the car is out there and something being done with it.Can't wait to see the updates on it.Enjoy!!!!

Neat! I have always wondered where my high school cars went but I really don't have much hope of finding them.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

That's pretty cool! I really only have one car that I'd like to know where it went, and of all things it was an old AMC Ambassador. It was an old NY state police interceptor. That 401 sure knew how to run.

:drive: I suspect it's nothing more than soup cans at this point.
Dave

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Now, you sound like my boss. "Is it done yet?" "When do I get a drive in it?" "Is it real?" "Do you even have a Charger?"

It HAS been a long time. I know. That 2 to 3 year stall on the project - my avatar picture is from right before things stalled - hurt the budget and my enthusiasm.

I'm hoping to see the shell done and back in my garage before the snow flies this year, but I have no set schedule with the guy doing the work. That works well for both he and I.

After that, I'll get real busy on component restoration and I'll have many more updates then... and many many more questions.  :-\

that's a very cool story  :2thumbs:    I was lucky enough to hold onto my high school car , It's still in the garage since 1985 . 24 years now

hee heeee! Thanks.

I got a bit of an update from the guy doing the work (he is a member here, but I'll let him chime in if he wants)

Lots of massaging around the wheel houses to get the quarters to fit right. The outer wheel houses were replaced by the first guy I brought the car to and those are the pieces that fit a Coronet and 'runner perfectly, but need to be trimmed down for a Charger - according to what I read here way back when. Well, I guess that's something else that that guy didn't listen to me about... (jeez, my grammar is way off kilter...sorry.)

Anyway, some other neat surprises like a filler strip of flat stock between the trunk pan and the rear valence.

The tail panel was glued in with seam sealer. Except for the three tack welds between it and the valence.

I feel a little like jb666.  :smilielol:

The AMD tail panel went in today.

The quarter panel extensions are going to need a little massaging to look right, but they're not too far off.

dodgecharger-fan

Some updates...
All the major panels are on. So, it went to the blaster to get a final clean up and put in to epoxy primer.
The blaster uncovered some more badness left by the previous guy. mostly around the wheel houses.
The inner wasn't even welded in. It was basically gooped to the floor pans with seam sealer.
and some fibre filler to smooth some rough spots.

It's all in good hands now and these things will get sorted out.

dodgecharger-fan

And some more recent pics.   :drool5:

Driver's side is in polyester primer and most of the panel alignment is done. The rest will get done once it's off the spinner.

69 OUR/TEA

Glad to see the  progress update!!!! :2thumbs: Don't think I asked you ,how were you going to go with the resto?????? Original colors, interior, engine, etc?????
