Ok one of my projects for the summer was to finally get my gas gauge fixed...I bought a new brass float last year for $5 and thought I would start there. Well I got it all apart and sure enough there was gas in the old float...Put it all back together and it still did not work right.I had to have emergency surgery a few weeks ago, so I did not get back to it until this week. Now I take it all apart again and found that the little wiper blade inside the potentiometer was broke off..I tried to fix it, but thought what the hell how much is a new sending unit anyway?...I did some checking around on the forum here and called Vans Auto parts over here next to us in WI..I ordered in on Monday and got it on Tuesday...Very cool..I installed it and well...Something still did not look right, so back out for a 3rd time...I put the old and new units next to each other and looked down from front to back. The new one sat about an inch higher than the old one, so like alot of other people had I bent the float rod down just below the old one....Buttoned the whole thing back up and took a deep breath as I filled the take up to the tune of $35 and......BAM...Full tank right not the gads......I'm so happy that my gas gauge works after 5 years of owning my 73....Like I said...Me 1, sending unit 0....
