A999 Transmission Questions

I have a 1989 Dodge Diplomat ex-cop car I was using for a winter beater. Needless to say the car's grown on me and I want to do a 360 swap and I have a few questions on the tranny.

I know I should probably use a 727 and be done with it, but if I have my A999 rebuilt properly, would it be fine behind a 350hp or so 360? Also, do I have to use a lock-up convertor since thats what it came with or can I use any convertor? Are lock-up transmissions somehow special and require special convertors?

I plan on keeping the 8 1/4" axle and 2.94 gears or possibly swapping to 3.23's but no lower.

Thanks

you "HAVE" to use a lock up converter. yes, they require special convertors.  I think the A999 will be fine with that.  As long as you use a good trans cooler in conjunction with your radiator cooling capability, and  you dont try and beat the shit out of it, it will work fine.

i would look for someone who has done this before; i would be curious about the flex plate and converter being interchangable between engines....

flexplate is no different between a lock up and a non-lock up converter.  converters bolt up the same to all engines, its the transmission to which you put the converter which will decide your application.  lockup can only go with lockup tranny's and vice versa.
