I picked up an nos lower shift boot at Carlisle ,and was wondering what the interest is or would be to have it produced. This is the flat one under the console and is with console only on 1969 and 1970 4 speeds only ( maybe 68's but I'm not sure enough to say)

Dans 68

Bill, would you post a pic or two of it? My '68 will have the Hurst shifter so it may work. And I would be interested.  :yesnod:

Bill, I would be interesed in one as I know my lower one is probably getting dried out as it seemed old when I did the tranny a couple years ago.

I think anyone with a 4-speed can use it since it's a non repop piece...

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Here's a pic of one. I've been trying to find one for over three years and Bill pulls the perverbial needle out of the haystack at Carlisle. Bill, my opinion is you have a winner on your hands. How long before they could be made available to all of us? Heck I would place a bulk order so I could add them to my inventory of resto parts.

Mark, thanks for the picture . Projected costs + production time frame will be later - once I talk to a few people and see how I need to procede. I have a target price in mind but that may change with production / tooling costs. cool part is I only paid $50 for it

I would be interested in hearing price range suggestions from the buying public

Bill, no problem on the pic, my pleasure. Cut your losses now and double your money on your investmet and sell it to me. But you could give Mike a call @ BE&A and he may be able to give you an estimated tooling/production cost. The interest seems to be there, but pricing will be a factor for both the seller and the buyer. Price it too high and you may never recover your investment, price them too cheap and you'll have to sell a million of them to recover your investment. I'm 100% sure that there are hundreds, perhaps thousands of console equipped cars out there missing this part.

And have been missing it for some years... My replacement happens to be a chopped up boot from an Escort.

So what I'm hearing is - IF ( the operative word here ) I decide to procede with this idea. everyone will remove the wrinkled , torn, split just plain junk boot ( and the less common escort boot ) and purchase and all new correct boot ? I have to decide to produce WAY more than I'll ever sell and sell to bring per piece costs down , or just produce a smaller production total pieces and sell a greater percentage of pieces but at a higher price per piece.

I don't know about everyone, per se... but some of us would do it in a heartbeat... :2thumbs:

bull

I sure need one as does just about anyone else with a four speed I bet. I assume these boots were the same on several different four speed models, correct?

hemigeno

Bill,

Do you know if that inner boot is supposed to be the style of the one charge-it posted a picture of, or should it be the style in the picture below?

Reason I ask, is that I bought an NOS boot like charge-it's picture several years ago, but was not sure it belonged on a '69 car.  The Parts Books and most of the engineering drawings show what I've assumed is the larger boot with the round hole, and I only found one drawing that had the smaller one with the rectangular center section.  Both Vance and I were wondering which was correct.

**Edit** The parts book gives the 2996454 part number for console cars, which I guess is the one charge-it posted.  I don't have the other boot here to check the part number, but that's probably it.  Sorrry...

gtx6970

Gene,
I can't answer that with 100% certainty, but  I do know the metal ring at the base of the  boot has the same part number as the boot you've shown, I have them on hand as well. I would assume the one I have is the correct one due to the shape  of the boot is the same compared to the base of the 69+70 4 speed shifter

I'll see if I can get a few pics of it later today. BUT If not - I am leaving for florida early evening but will be back next saturday afternoon and will take care of it then.

Daytona R/T SE

I'll need one.

Hell, I might even take two.  :2thumbs:

I am using a repro 1970 pistol grip boot under the console of my 68 with a Hurst shifter, but that being said, I would take it out and put in the correct style if it was available in the 50-75 dollar range. Maybe I'm crazy, but it bugs me having the "wrong" boot in there even though nobody can see it.

Is this boot for the 66 & 67s with the round shaft shifter, where the other would be for the 69 with the rectangler shaft shifter?

CB

So Bill, what's happening? You're still planning to get the boot reproduced?
Thanks
