Holley 770 street Avenger on a 440.

I've pulled the float bowls off several time's to re jet up in size because it seemed to be going lean at higher RPM's.
Well, the metering block and float bowls have new gasket's. The carb to intake gasket is new. But now it starts hard, idles for a little bit then die's.
The site glass' are on the side of the bowl's so I can see the level. I've adjusted with the idle mixture screw's but it doesn't seem to help. Getting a squirt of fuel from the accelerator pump wich seems to help a little to keep it running. I pulled the number 1 sparkplug and it's dry.

Sounds like it's time for a rebuild....

Try a Carter??

The name Carter has come to mind. Heck of it is, this carb has maybee 1500 miles on it. The problem's with the cutting out at higher rpm's were not noticeable until I went from a 2.73 open diff to a 3.91 suregrip. That led to re jetting the carb and now this.

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak somewhere since you squirt fuel to keep it running so you must be pretty lean at idle. Or maybe something with the new gaskets you used might be blocking or opening some passages that shouldn't be, did you compare the old to new gaskets?

I'm going to pull the float bowl and metering block off one more time on the primaries and check. The pile of gaskets I have all look the same. It did this once before when I was swapping jets. So I replaced the metering block, float bowl and carb to intake gasket. It idled fine after that. But the last couple times it hasn't worked  :shruggy:.
