I got a call from my mom about 10:30 in the morning Friday that my 66yo dad was in the hospital. She told me that they still didn't know what it was that put him there, and to stay at work as there was nothing I could do at that time, so I did. As the day went on, every update I got was worse then the previous one. To make a long story short, He had multiple strokes all around his brain at the same time, that also caused a massive heart attack in which his heart stopped and they had to bring him back through CPR. They then flew him to Milwaukee, where he is as of right now. He is in ICU on life support, and in a coma. The doctors don't think he will make it through the weekend at this point. There is no brain activity at this point, and no responce to pain, and his eyes are dialated all the way. Basically he is brain dead already. Only thing keeping him alive is the life support, a lot of medication, and they have his heart in a controled freeze to keep it from pumping to fast. My mom is having surgery on Monday as well that cant be put off no longer for her gall bladder. She is in a lot of pain already from that. So far for me, I been holding my own, I'm going to keep working as much as I can with my new job, although, they do know about it. Work is the best way for me to deal with stuff. But the rest of this month is going to be tuff. So far, everything has been "surreal" to me. My mom went to the hospital this afternoon with a friend, and if she has the currage, I think she is going to have my dad removed from life support. She didn't want me to be there for that. She asked I stayed home today.

Pete, you have my thoughts, prayers and sympathies, man.

So sorry to hear about this.

It's never easy when it's family that's sick, and when it's parents it makes it even tougher sometimes.

Just keep yourself busy, and try to stay positive.

Easy for me to say, but it works.

Hang in there, bro.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

We will be thinking of you and your family during this really hard time.   :rotz:

Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers everyone. They just may be working. I have great news in my update.

UPDATE 7/13/09

As of today, my dad has survived the trama and coma, the doctors said he would most likely die of by yesterday. As of today, my dad after being declaired brain dead Friday night, is showing signs of brain activity and improvement. Since last night, the doctors have learned my Dad can hear, he can wiggle his fingers and toes on demand, and responds to pain. They also said he has been showing signs that he is trying to open his eyes. There is still a long way to go to know how much damage was done, but this is all great news after thinking he was all but dead.

Thanks again, and I will keep everyone updated as I find out things.
