its a good thing i didnt sell my spare complete doors for my 69'.  i went to take a buddy of mine for a ride in the car today and when he shut the passenger door the glass shattered!  :o   the window was completly down as i had just got back from a cruise myself. he also did not slam the door. just a normal close. no idea what happened there. but it is done for, in a million little pieces.

That's a drag.  At least you have a replacement   :2thumbs:

you've heard of that happening? what the hell causes it?

Glass gets old and fragile. You might be missing some type of pad/brush the rests on the glass. Any metal touching the glass and it's bad news.

I have a spare set of glass for my doors for that very reason. I need to get the tinting stripped off of them though - it's all scratched up and looks like crap right now.  :eek2:

just figured i'd update this one, its been a crazy week and i finally got to work on the car, pulled the panel and cleaned out all the glass. i cannot find anything broken or bent, nothign hanging loose that would have hit the glass, nothign on the mechanism is binding.  i replaced the glass and tried the window many times very slowly watching for anything to bind or hit with no issue. i dont know what caused my other one to shatter but lets hope it doesnt happen again. i am out of glass!!

When I was 18 and driving my '70 around everywhere my girlfriend at the time got mad about something and slammed the passenger door. That wouldn't normally be a big deal but in the process her hand hit the metal piece at the back of the glass and it popped off at a 45-degree angle which hit the rear quarter window. Crash! Only after I found a donor car and replaced it did I discover that it was not tinted like it was supposed to be. :brickwall:
