340 RALLEY

How can I find the production numbers for the 1973 Dodge Charger Ralley Edition. To my knowledge, the Ralley Edition was only available equipped with the 340 engine. I currently have one that has been in my family since it was brand new. I've heard of some very low production numbers but I do not have anything that supports these claims. Can anyone help?

No, backwards, Chargers with 340 were a Rallye by default. Not other way to get a 340 on a Charger if wasn't a Rallye, but you could get a Rallye with any engine except 400 2 bbls ( I think ) and /6. ( 318 2bbls was the basic/standart Rallye ). Then on 74 not anymore 340 and substituted by 360 4bbls. What I'm not sure is if 360 was also available in some other Charger model

There were roughly 3200 Chargers sold with a 340 in 73 in all so it's an uncommon drivetrain no matter how else the car is equipped.  There is a big difference in the number when you break down in body style though with the coupes only using about 400 of that 3200 figure.
Nacho, my sources show a 360 available in the SE for 74 as well as the other Charger models that year.  Is there such a beast as an SE Rallye?

Not officially on books as far I know, but you could get in 74 SEs with some Rallye adds, like rear sway bar and mid body sides stripes... never with bulged hood. Rallye cluster was already part of SE package so...

I have seen couple of them on the web

340 RALLEY

I have been told that there were 91 built (73' Chargers, Rally package, w/340 Magnum) 48 of them w/727 automatic and 43 w/4-speed. Does this sound right to anyone? My car is a hardtop and a factory stipe "delete" car. The car is solid white w/the buldge hood and factory hood pins. The buldge is flat black w/the 340 Magnum emblems. It has factory A/C, Power Steering, Power windows, Rear Window Defrost, Power Brakes w/front disc, Rear Sway Bar. This car is as original as they come and fully documented w/two build sheets, owners manual, warranty card, tire rotation card, etc. I really want to find out what the true production numbers are and some kind of idea as to what the value of the car could be.

I don't know if those numbers are correct or not. I have a factory 340 Rallye four speed, its a stripe delete car also. The 340 is gone and has a 360 in it now. Please post pics of your car.
BTW...welcome to the site.

According to the 1971-1974Dodgecharger website.... 2811 340 4 BBL, Rallye Chargers were built, 2415 were automatics, 396 were 4 speeds. Those are hardtop numbers, it also says 394 coupes were built, but it don't break down between auto and 4 spds.

Galen's book states the 396 400 CID with MT were built, and 396 340CID with MT were built. I'm having a hard time with those numbers. Could it be that 396 MT 400CID and 340 CID combined? That would make more sense. Every so often I hear that only 40 were built with the 340 and MT combo.

I picked up a 73 Rallye 340 for my son a few years ago out of SC and have been slowly working on it when time and money permit . I have always wondered about the production numbers myself .
It is a WL Coupe car . Column Auto .  with very very few options . Pwr . Steering and Brakes , Front Discs , Rear Swaybar , Chrome Outside Mirrors , Sure Grip . Everything else is just basic stuff .  Too bad the built sheet was scrap shredded paper when found . Bought it no engine or trans . This car is absent of most chrome that my Hardtop has . It has no Fender or Quarter chrome bezels , no Rocker Mouldings . Weird car . I tried to attach a pic .
