Hi, i'm new to the forum, but have been a dodge charger fan since I can remember. I finally scored a 69 charger that needs alot of help. The grille is totally smashed up, and i have to replace the hood, roof, both quarters, tail light panel, trunk floor, and floor boards. I know it's alot, but it's a factory numbers matching big block car that i bought from the original owner. It even came with power disc brakes!!! Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knows who remakes the grille for it? Also interested in suggestions about who to puchase the sheet metal from? I've heard good things about amd, and goodmark. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Dustin

Welcome, and congrats with your car :2thumbs:

AMD will be able to provide you all the sheetmetal you would need. Great stuff, and reasonably priced   :2thumbs:

About the grille, i am not sure, but maybe beaparts, and if they can not help you, they would maybe be able to redirect you :shruggy:

Good luck
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

Welcome to the site.    Fortunately, everything you need is being reproduced other than the grille I believe.  Go with AMD for panels or Classic Body Designs is also reproducing nice panels right here in the USA in Michigan.  Post some pictures of your car when you get a chance.

Good luck with the car.  You're a long way from the first guy to rebuild a Charger that is so far gone.  Rust really hit these cars badly.  It's pretty rare to find a car with all its original sheemetal anymore.

AMD for the panels, Ebay for the grille plastic.  You'll get raped for the price of a decent used grille, but no (honest) business is reproducing it yet.

Use the search engine to find more info about the grille.  It is being reproduced but few people actually get the grille after paying for it.  Look for used ones on ebay.  Use the correct catagory for your search.  Search for "reproduction grille " under the paint body trim section.Alsp PG Classics has lots of great reproduction parts along with Year One ( huge shipping cost though ) ,Paddock, Dantes, etc....Welcome to the site, that's great that your saving a 1 owner big block Charger.  :2thumbs:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

THE COLONEL

Welcome aboard.  Over the years I have gotten good info from members here, and it will be no different for you.  Sometime I feel like I still ask stupid question! :slap:

The grille some are talking about being reproduced is from Premier Plastics.  I was looking at their stuff last year, but have heard that some paid for it, and never got it, and that it just was't the same from those that did receive it.

Not just some but most who have purchased grilles from Premier Plastics have ended up getting ripped off.  I haven't held one in my hands to personally verify but I've also been told that of the tiny handful of people who did receive something from them, they were very disappointed in the poor quality of the plastic.

Well thanks guys for the input! I'm very stoked to start working on this car. That sux about the grille though. You'd figure someone could make a decent grille for these cars. You can get them for the road runner and super bee, it's stupid no one has picked up on the charger grille yet. Oh well. The search for parts is just going to be that much more fun! My fender tag has rusted into two peices. Is there any way of knowing what this car came with? besides the disc brakes, it's got cruise control, but no ac. I'm thinking that someone ordered this car? I'm going to pull the back seat out, but with the rust holes in the roof, I have a bad feeling that the build sheet isn't going to be in good condition, if it's still there?

If I were you - looking for a good used 1969 Charger grille, I'd post a "wanted" ad on the Swap Meet area of this site.

IMHO it's Premier Plastics that has been partly responsible for 68/69 Charger grilles getting delayed so long.

Nobody wants to be the second company to spend the money to create tooling for something.  For several years PP was acting just legit enough to dissuade other companies from investing in that part.  We'd probably have that grille already if PP had never gotten involved.

Ghoste

I think you are 100% right!

Sounds a lot like my project in terms of what panels have needed replacing. It can be done.

Good luck!

The vin starts with xp. I don't know alot about decoding these cars. Is there a place to decode just the vin number? I did it on a google vin decoder site, but the last digits it said was the serial number? Don't know?

The fender tag is not completley gone. about thefirst half of it is there. Any ideas on how to save it? Will it tell me anything with only half of the numbers?

Brock Samson

Lots! List what ever you have here and welcome to the obsession.  :slap:  :eek2:

evansdieselperformance

Here she is. She's got potential. So I checked out the build sheet situation, I grabbed the seat to remove it and rust came pouring out the bottom of the back rest :'( I cant get the fender tag cleaned up well enough to make out any of the numbers either. :RantExplode:

Something big was living under the hood. Notice fender tag rusted in half.

It looks like a lot of project but it will be worth it in the end.
