Burnt out bulb, bad ground?

Lee A

I put all new bulbs in and all the grounds are good would my flasher  relay cause that when i was disconnecting the voltage guage I accentdailty touch the back of the cluster and had a spark

I put a different flasher in and now the signal lights are flashing normal on the right side but when I do the left side just the taillights flash the left hood signal and the front bottom will not how come

in my recent experience with the signals,  u got a few options

#1 the ground and bulb connection to the dash

#2 turn Signal harness in steering column

#3 the flasher is worn

#4 If that all checks out then checks leads going through bulkhead conector

#5 Check for shorts / in the indicator wiring

#6 short in main harness?

Good luck

I just put 2 new flashers in there and the 4 way flashers work from front to back both sides but the when I put it to the left signal light just the back one works and all the right side works from front to back

Just a guess a turn signal switch issue or connection at base of steering column .Its a clear like plastic plug.I have unplugged from column and inserted power at wires shown on the diagram to be left or right feed.To see if the certain light comes on then .But not when plugged into the steering coulmn switch to isolate the problem.I use this same technique to checkout the front or rear lighting harness. If you certain your bulbs and sockets and grounds are all ok

What diagram I unplagged the the plug at base had power when key is on at 2 different points.I hate this i have been working on this problem for a week and a half now and not getting anywhere I'm trying but I know what to look for in behind the cluster it has to be there thats the only thing that I removed and didn't rewire anything

you did not get the flasher relays mixed up !!  :scratchchin:  sounds like a earthing problem  :scratchchin:

Even though the 2 flashers plug in same sockets .I recall there is a heavy duty one for emergency flasher which maybe slower. And regular flasher for the turn signal unless they nowadays use the same one .Follow the wiring diagram for the section your working on.It will save you time and fustration. Just take one wire at a time and remember to start where it gets it power from what it supplies .And that you also need a ground to complete the circuit. And a 12 volt testlight comes in very handy. You really shouldnt work with battery on with electrical issues. That spark you mentioned from hooking up amp gauge red black wires.. From surging power into any metal which helps establish a ground could cause a new electrical component to fail..I ve had alot of mopar electrical issues and Im sure alot of others had them aswell with these old cars and there systems.Ask away .I wired about 35 mopars and counting before you could even get aftermarket replacement wiring harnesses. On my cars and alot of friends aero cars.I think I know alot of there trouble zones amp gauge bulkhead fuse box etc etc from messing around with them so many years.I got all the diagrams on my computer to reference. So try to describe in detail what issues your having what does and doesnt work .[[[And grounds number 1 mopar issue]]] . Dash cluster needs to be grounded for gauges to operate .Steering column has a ground wire .If you have electronic ign and no spark module probably not well grounded.Same goes for alt and regulator need good grounds. As does the rest of the car .And anything that carry voltage and its loose or coroded at bulkhead or fusebox.Causes resistance .And you get the plastic burning smell as a result.

Found this on another board .Not good to work with bat voltage connected when messing with the wiring

I had a brain fart yesterday when I was taking out my speedometer cluster and didnt take off the pos wire off my battery, well needless to say the alternator wire terminal hit a piece of metal and shorted out the terminal plug on the wiring harness that sticks out of the firewall. The wire it shorted out is the wire that comes from the starter relay on the firewall. My question is can I just run a wire from the relay to the big red wire on the inside that goes to the alternator terminal on the insrument cluster. Because i don't know how the interior of the car gets the power unless the terminal that got burnt up feeds the whole wiring harness plug and if thats the case i'm probably screwed. And just cost myself over $500.00 which really stinks.

what works is the signals on the right side front to back when you put the right signal on when you put it to the left only the back taillight signals. The bulb in the dash for the left indicator doesn't work or the hood signal or the front marker light no power at all three spots.I do not understand the electral diagram and soon there will be a fist mark in the windshield and put back in the shed for 20 years for the next guy to buy then after putting 25 grand into the damn thing

Dont let the diagrams bother you .Take them as a map and your going from one point to another. On a selected highway starting from the battery power source and needed ground to complete circuit

.But reading as you saying the left side only has no dash indicator/ front turn signal or/ marker light. And only working leftside function is rear left tailight ..Got me thinking and looking towards turn signal column switch or its connection point. If your certain bulbs sockets and front lighting harness and connection and grounds are all ok

Do your have both working brakelights .And emergency flashers do they work all 4.The reason I ask they use the high bright side of the bulb.As does the turn signal. The low dim side of the same bulb is for parking lights. And bulbs can burnout one one side.

And just re read all you posts and they do work

So again as your lost feed power to the L side. Im looking at turn signal switch and its connection. The indicator light  something on the dash cluster.connection bulb perhaps

kinda getting back to you a little late but try the bulk head connection first then look at the groungs andthe light is mounted!

nascarxx29

If you disconnect the turn signal column switch .And using the side of the connector from the car s harness. And with a diagram to show which color to feed power into. Take a piece of 18 gauge or similar wire from a 12 volt source. And touch it to that that wire .In this case its a light green wire for the left front signal power feed and for the left indicator and turn signal. If that left turn signal lights brightly and indicator works .That didnt work before. Then its bad turn signal switch or wire or connection. As its not getting power from the switch on its own

It was the steering column switch.Glad your good to go again .I had a 70 Super Bee drove me crazy and from the factory. That metal guide for the turn signal wires. They pinched a wire with a screw.Didnt find it till droping the column down
