I was at Officemax buying a Printer and the dumb kid working there put it in my front seat and tore the headliner! :o
I was beyond mad. But the best part is they say they're NOT liable! :flame:
AND... it was the original liner in mint shape.

So my job now is let the world know what happened. And do not go to Officemax, they say they are all about customer service... But clearly, they are not.
Any feedback is appreciated. :brickwall:

if he as the employee shoved it into your car without regard to causing damage it IS their responsibility, file yourself in small claims court but don't think your gonna get anything for it being original or your"pain and suffering", you'll get parts/labor/installation/and court fees

Sorry to hear the bad news: I vote for beating the sales clerk.

Legendary is having a 20% off sale. Might as well score one while they are on sale.

I understand why you are upset, but WHY would you subject your COLLECTOR CAR to even be potentially damaged in a situation like this?

This is an example of what is called "tuition".  You'll never do it again.    It doesn't matter whether it is a cruise night, or a trip to the store.   You are going to encounter people who don't understand your old car and that things are fragile.   Having a kid put a large bulky printer box in your old car is pretty much asking for a problem.

sorry to hear about the damage. Hopefully you will get someone at that company to step up. I'd suggest talking to corporate office and send them pictures along with a detailed explanation of the who, what, when, where and whys.

While that may be true to a point, Fact is if it were a newer car and they ripped the headliner, They still woulndn't take the responsibility and do the right thing. Either the manager of that store or someone at corporate needs to know about this. Wether it's a 40 year old classic or a new car has little bearing on what they are responsible for. They need to stand up.

:iagree:

I'd have politely declined the help and done it myself...     but first I probably would have taken the jeep anyway.     I have nobody to impress at a Staples or whatever that I need to take the Charger to.   I neither expect nor trust most people to respect my car therefore I do not allow them to endanger it.

I did stop at Sam's club once to pick up some things for E-booger on the way to Bear Mt.  once.    I parked across 3 handicapped spots.

But hey... try your insurance.     I don't recommend it but a friend of mine "claimed" his old headerliner got purposely sliced (vandalized) at a car show.   The fact his elderly mother used a walker and had difficulty getting in and out had nothing to do with it  ::)
Then another time he claimed somebody keyed up his paint on the endura bumper so he  got the front end repainted... which looked nicer than the accumulated rock chips that were there before.

Using the car as a grocery getter can conjure up anything like that. Wasn't the best idea. There could've been a runaway cart that dinged it while you were in the store and there's nothing they can do about it.  In any case, I'm on your side and think that you MIGHT get somewhere with a small claims against them.  But!  :shruggy:

Despite there claims, they caused the damage so they are indeed liable. The real question is of course, is it worth going to court over... My personal suggestion is to go harras them, keep requesting to speak to the manager, district manager etc. Write down all info including names, ask them for written statements to what ever they say, essentially pester them to they give a settlement. Again it may not be worth fight but win or lose they are a corporation that will need to formally pay for a lawyer to be present. And any lawyer will advice the company it would be cheaper to settle.

With that said, why the hell would you let some min wage kid put anything in your car...

Dumbass, where were you when this kid was jamming this box into YOUR car? Were you not helping this kid load this thing into YOUR car? (Oh wait a minute, are you one of THOSE people who just stand back and watch other people struggle and strife trying to please YOU the customer instead of lending a helping hand?)
This is what trunks, trucks, daily driver cars, moms car/truck, dads car/truck, wifes/girlfriends car/truck, a buddy's car/truck are for. Now, the thought actually crosses your mind that this is SOMEONE else's fault? Really?

This statement seems to be the thoughts that most of us have on your headliner incident, including myself. It sucks when this stuff does happen, but experience is the best teacher. People can be totally careless, or totally ignorant of what they're doing. It's happened to me before, like when my wife bought an air conditioner & the guy at the store put it on the passenger seat of her Duster. The box hit the radio & snapped the shaft off that the knob is on. I've even done it to myself & learned valuable lessons from it. My convertible has "convertible only" plastic parts on it, & once coming home from a swap meet, a drive shaft being removed from the passenger compartment tapped & shattered the interior windshield pillar trim.  ::)

If you're hell bent on making the store pay for a new headliner, the only thing you can probably do is write a letter to customer service & see what happens. If nothing happens & you're still mad, follow it up with a small claims suit. It'll take months & you'll spend more time & energy doing this than if you just replaced the headliner & forget about it.

I think the Ben Kanobi crack was his way of venting his anger, not necessarily directlly towards Aero426.

did you know there was a wookiepedia.com site for star wars fans?  maybe he can us the force to repair his headliner.

I once bought some bulky packages at a tool show and as I was trying to open my door to the Charger and not drop the boxes, an older fellow standing nearby helped me to open the car door.  After I thanked him he told me, "no problem, but it sure is sad to see somebody using a fine old Charger like this as a pickup truck".  My interior was extremely ratty at the time but his point was well taken.  It was the first and last time I used the Charger as a "pickup truck".  If it's your daily driver, it's going to suffer the same ravages as some plain old Civic or Ram or whatever.

That's why I don't think I can ever live without owning a truck anymore. Hauling anything home in the passenger compartment other than a soft, non-marking, shopping bag filled with soft, non-marking items like bread & toilet paper (not the store brand toilet paper, they're too rough) everything goes into the back.

well, this thread is sure informative..  :-\
my story:
late for a gig i was picking up the drummer, who, while i was inside getting parts of his kit, dragged his assembled high hat stand across the headliner (which was cherry BTW) ripping a 5 inch slice and wedging the &^!@#& thing against the roof,.. to say I had something to say about it would be an understatement,..  :RantExplode:
Usually i took my dodge van to shows carrying equipment but sometimes when we had the luxury of pre-set up and or multiple sets we'd show up for the gig in our muscle cars, my Charger R/T, Vince's Convert '69 firebird 400 and Rods' '67 Convert Mustang GT... especially effective entrance for outdoor venues...
anyhow,.. Sucks that it happened but i could tell you at least a dozen stories about how my Charger has been beaten on both in tensionally and unintentionally... welcome to classic car ownership and sorry for your loss,.. better then a 10 Yr. old kid crashing his moutain bike square into the rear quarter panel after jumping the hedge yelling YEEEE HAWWWWW!!! (another story)  :eek2:

Well as I expected I got some very nice sympathetic replies and some real nut jobs.
Soooo, to clarify.

This is my daily driver it's not a sacred, shrine. :notworthy: I've owned and, own plenty of cars like that, too much pain in Azz. It doesn't discount the fact that what happened truly sucks.
So watching it like a pit bull or worrying about going to the store in it doesn't fly because there's no enjoyment there.
And to say, well, if you drive it like that this kind of stuff is going to happen. Ok, at least I get to spend more time in the car having fun rather than hand over a perfectly preserved car I hardly drove.

Absolutely! And as one of the other guys pointed out... it could have been any car, new or old. The frustration still remains.

I was in a brand new Corvette and had someone greet me on the street with their gargantuan dog. And the first thing the dog did was
jump up on the door and slide down it scratch the paint with it's nails the whole way.

I've also had cars I've babied incredibly. And when it came time to sell, some Joker low balled me anyway.

In all the crap cars I've ever driven and had similar incidents, I've never looked back and said, "Well, at least I was driving a Daihatsu!"
