is a 72 really worth 40 grand?

that car isn't even factory......he probably told his wife, "fine, then i'll sell the car" but he doesn't really want to......clean car (on top anyway) but 40K?  No way.
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

Good looking car, I'd say 15k would be a semi-reasonable price.

All said and done, when my Gen 3 is complete, I will probably have close to $35,000 into rebuilding it.  I have no intentions of selling it, but if I was to feel out the market...I  too would probably test the water with $40k.  I would not expect to see anything close.  But you never know, The generation that had these cars when they were teens/young adults are in the stage of life where they may have accumulated some wealth and have some disposable cash, and may just be willing to shell that out to get their teen/young adult era car back in their garage (chances a newly restored car is probably in better shape the one they had in the day).

Nothing wrong with seeing if there is anyone out there willing to pay it, Especially if he took the time and used his $$ to restore it.

I agree with Foreman and think 18-25k is what you may be able to get for a regular #'s Restored Third gen.  Just in what he list (Rebuilt Motor top to bottom, New interior, new rims and tires) is potentially 7-12k out of pocket alone.

18-25k sounds about right with all the work done.
