How did you guys treat beneath the front seat base plates?

Short of cutting them off and rewelding them to check for and deal with any potential rust, how did you treat that area between the floor and the plate itself? Here's an old picture for reference:

dump some epoxy on the floor ,turn car up on its side for 5 min then do other side.i never had to treat mine but if i did i would do it this way.

if you have access to sandblaster that would be great... Afterward I'd put some POR15 on it

If you sandblast to bare metal, epoxy prime it.

You can generally get the stuff out from them with compressed air. (Due to my lack of proper tools I used some keyboard cleaner.) Since my floors were pretty solid I simply aired it out, shot some Prep Step in there, then used Zero Rust in a spray can with the little plastic straw thing. Should be plenty adequate IMO.

I posted this in a similar thread.  Removing as much rust as you can would be good.  You can kill the rest with Picklex 20. Picklex will also help remove the surface rust and treat the metal for epoxy primer or ZeroRust.  Spray the Picklex 20 on and scrub with a Scotch Brite pad and the surface rust will come off while killing the residual rust left behind in the pits.  Wipe off any rusty soot you can and re-apply.  Wipe off any residual Picklex.  The remaining rust will turn black and die.  Once the metal is "completely dry" then you can coat with epoxy primer or the ZeroRust.  Next to sandblasting to bare metal and then epoxy priming the above will work for you.  The rust will be dead and the coating will protect against anymore rust from forming.  Read the information on both products on their websites.

Hey Bull,

I'm currently addressing some minor rust issues on my 69. For what you have there 69*F5*SE has the right idea.
I'm using Eastwoods' Rust Incapsulator. It comes in several quantities. I bought a quart can and a rattle can for areas I can't reach.....similar to your situation. This product neutralises and encapsulates the rust then becomes the primer coat. Great stuff and it beats POR15.
My trunk application required the usual surface grinding to bare metal but the other, more obscure areas, like back in the fender/body places the spray works fine.
This material turns black when its cures so be advised of that. Good luck.
