Are all Dodge Dealerships Smoking Crack? (09 Challenger)

So I went to the local Dodge Dealership to check out their selection of used Grand Cherokees for my wife. Nice enough salesguy and all. I noticed three new 09 Challenger SRT's sitting on the used lot. So I ask him how 3 used Challenger SRTs are already used and the salesguy tells me that they bought them off another dealership that couldnt move them. I walked over to check em out, and ask the salesguy how much their trying to get, he tells me 60k  :smilielol: I asked him if they test regularly for dope smoking. He was dead serious. Are all dealerships jacking the prices up on these things that bad? I can get a Viper for not much more then that. Im planning on buying one in Dec/Jan. but if prices are really that out of control then Ill take the regular R/T thanks  :icon_smile_cool:

I'd call Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, ID and see what they say. I don't think anyone in the nation is able to beat them on price. They have shuttle buses running to the airport and back each morning picking people up from all over the country to buy cars.

The dealership had a white R/T that was here forever. My dad and me test drove it in Langley back in January. It was originally in Duncan (my town), then went to Langley and then ended back up in Duncan. I think they either sold it, put it in the showroom or sold it off to another dealer. I haven't seen it in the lot. However, when my dad went to find out pricing, we were shocked...it was very high priced, especially for a R/T.

1. If the dealership IS selling these at the mark-up price, then they are not going to lower it.

2. What is the median income of the county the dealership is in, if its high the price is going to reflect it.

3. It might take them 6 months to sell it, but its still a 20k profit(minus 1k for sitting for 6 months.) These are still commodity cars, not full blown generic production vehicle-yet.

4. SHOP around as stated by above post. Finding a good deal on a car is no different than shopping for anything else. I would drive 5 hours to save 15K on a SRT.

My buddy bought a white RT, fully loaded, every option. Asking price was 42k, he gave them 5k cash, they knocked 7k off and he got a no interest loan $625/month for 4 years.
He bought it during a snow storm in February, he was there 4 hours and was the only customer that Saturday, salesguy was probably desperate.

Feb????? That was during the employee pricing, even on the challys,no big shock he got a deal, that is when I started looking at the new challys, but did'nt buy mine until late March.Even at that I paid $2K less than window.Asking more than window is just obsurd!!!!! If I wanted to order one,I could have got it for just a couple hundred over invoice,as all they are essentually doing is taking an order, plus they would get some kickbacks and such, for doing nothing.Good thing I bought off the lot,it was exactly the way I wanted it,Idid'nt have to wait, and did'nt get screwed!!!!I love it,and have driven it way more than the charger this year!!! My only complaint is it should have alittle more ooooomph!!!!

I keep going in to check on the price. Although they aren't building cars right now, it seems like all the dealers have about 4-6 challengers in stock.

Best I could do about two weeks ago was $500 off MSRP. I'm waiting until its $500 below invoice.

I'm sorry but id rather go buy myself a fully loaded SS Camaro for $40k than pay all that extra money for a car no better.

Here's a listing of a dealer near me that has 4 from prices of $43k to $46k. Just click on model and select challenger.

I've been keeping score on the prices of new Challengers here in Halifax (Canada).
An six speed SRT went for $52K and change...see the printout below.
The R/Ts are coasting around 42K for an automatic, 45K for a six speed.
That being said, I know they'll move a bit on those figures, as one dealership had a loaded R/T for 39K not long ago.
Keeping in mind the comparative value of Canadian currency verses American.

I'm still waiting for purple.

On a similar but disrelated note, apparently production of Challengers is just about to resume, for only two weeks. I've read where they have a supply of 400 floorpans stockpiled from their supplier, and after that the plant is shutting down again, to prepare for the 2010 models.

Again, I hope purple is on the list for 2010!!

At these prices, when all the taxes and Reg. Insur. and incidentals are factored in, you might as well restore a Classic (of your choice of course  :icon_smile_wink: ) or even buy a nice runner and add some modern convieniences...
I remember when the Enforcer oh, sorry, Coronet,.. umm er,.. yeah,..  :-\ was introduced and they said the planned two door would be for the "purists" when they finally sold 100K of the fourdoors,.. but what they didn't say was it would the "wealthy Purists"... anyone know of anyone who bought one of the 6 Cyl. SEs at the claimed of price of $22K?..

Magnumcharger

You're right. Who the heck would want a V6 Challenger?  It's a big car.
So far this year, Challenger (all models) have been selling around 2500 units per month. Not a lot really, compared to the Coronet, I mean Charger.
And production for those previously mentioned 400 floorpans has been designated for R/T and SRTs only.
That pretty well says it all.

Your better off (hate to say it) going on e-bay.  Our Dodge dealer deserves to be broke and in jail. They are 100 percent crooks. Chevy is not far behind either. They want $36,000 for their new V8 Camaro. I just say HELL NO.
Those kind of prices in todays economy  :smilielol:

Nothing has changed in 33 years, anyone remember 77 Z/28's? 2K mark up on a 6K car...just about same ratio. The house sets the price not "your salesman" he just runs back and forth. The only way you can know how much is to sit down and fight it out. Go in telling them you want a 6 cyl, stripped. Let them think they talked you into a upgrade. Leave. Let them call you back. Go back..tell them about some other dealer and leave again. You should find out then what they will really do. (Trust me I got a 77 Z/28 for 700 below sticker in 77 and sold for Ford in 88 and learned I figured it out in 77)

Now see, to my twisted way of thinking, instead of closing dealerships, what they should do is to crack down on this stuff.  Chrysler needs a little more control over their retail outlets and dealers should have to run their stores like any other franchised business.  Here is the price, here is the service, any dealer that doesn't meet the standard loses his franchise.  :shruggy:   I know, it's oversimplifying a bigger issue and it's not the American way, blah, blah, blahdee, blah.

Thought I seen a 09 SRT on ebay for $30k & a couple others in high 30k. Why pay $60k? LEON.
