Hey I am getting ready to install a remanufactured power steering pump on my 70 Charger R/T and I have a puller to get the pulley off...would it be ok to install the pulley on the new pump using the open end of a socket to tap it back on?

if its a saginaw ...sould  go on far enough for the nut to catch a thread or two , then just tighten it  that will pull the pully on the shaft , well should , all the saginaws i have done , went on ok , check any forgien debries in side the pully or a damaged wood ruff key  :scratchchin:

I think its a federal. It has the big round fill tube an round body..is that a federal?

Also there is no woodruff key on the shaft for this pump.

62 Max

Also,if it's a Federal you need to have the pump body out of the reservoir or you will be pressing on the back of the reservoir instead of the pump body.If you don't you will end up with the back of the reservoir damaged.

My pump is a Federal as well on my '70 ('72 engine), the shaft is threaded internally. When I bought a reman. one, it came with a hardened bolt with a washer and a square nut to use to press it back on.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.
