I normally wouldn't post something like this, but I thought other wing car fans would like to see these. This shop that I never heard of is restoring a Hemi Superbird & posted some nice photos.

Does anyone own or know this car? Looks like it's going to be nice.

Doesn't look bad. A few goofs on the motor and some other areas but at least they are attempting a proper resto. A lot more research went into this than a typical resto.

Apex is an outgrowth of what was Aloha Automotive.    It's owned by Tom White's son, Andrew.   The closing of his dads Aloha Automotive shop led to Andrew starting his own business.

I'm far from having as much Hemi car info filed away in my brain as a lot of you other guys, but am I wrong that I don't see any torque boxes at the rear of the front frame rails? 

My Satellite convertible has them, & I have heard many times over the years that Hemi cars are supposed to have them too. Are they different looking than the convertible boxes, or is there a chance that this isn't a Hemi car?

Interesting observation.... aren't all Superbirds supposed to have a Hemi upgraded suspension. You would think then all car should have the boxes.

I think all that meant was the heavier duty leaf springs, shocks, and brakes-all standard fare on the Road Runner anyway.

I thought the Hemi boxes were only at the front end of the rear rails - which are clearly present on this car in the pictures.  Convertibles did have them too (which makes it harder to document a hemi convertible).

I hadn't heard of boxes at the rear end of the front rails.

70Bird - I don't think all birds had Hemi frame boxes.  As for suspensions, I know my old 'bird did have extra leaves in the rear, although I don't recall the exact arrangement.

as far as verifying a Hemi convertible there would be no pinion snubber nor rear leaf spring reinforcements.



HP Gen 3 B's and E bodies got the front ones as part of the package, down to 440 cars.

Thanks!  Me too.  It was hard to part with, especially considering that my wife and I rode from our wedding to the reception in it, and both of my kids came home from the hospital in it when they were born. 

But a Daytona was my life-long dream of a car.
