I used to have a tuxedo SG like that.  But now I play a black beauty Les Paul, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

an old jam partner had a Gibson "Ripper" remember those?..

http://www.rsch.tuis.ac.jp/~mackin/images/IMG_0632.JPG

true story:

we used to practice in his garage when we were fresh outta H.S. his family was french creole from LA. the backwoods to be exact and they kept lotsa illeagle livestock in the garage and back yard, chickens goats and alot of bunnies in hutches which we faced when we played our original :Fusion of confusion" think two chord metal but waaaaay outta tune.. anyhow,.. them poor rabbits...
.. so one day we show up to jam, and all the rabbits are dead, skinned and hanging on the laundrey line about three feet infront us... I guess you could say we had a captive audience...  :P

I don't play guitar, but my wife has a '64 Gibson B-25 acoustic that looks like new. It's a smaller body guitar she uses to play fingerstyle blues on. She has a Dean Markley pick up, so one day while she was playing alone, I plugged it into a distortion pedal, an amp, & also put a mike in front of it & recorded it. What a cool sound to have it come through distorted on the amp, but still hear it acoustically.

yea the ripper was a cool bass, i have a grabber in my collection, it like a rpper but it has one pickup that slides up and down, yea the pickup moves and it changes the sound.

Totally ! But don't forget screaming saxes, tenors and baritones, not the wimpy ones  :icon_smile_big:
This would be out of pure sentiment but I'd love to trade my little Ibanez with a stupid deaf dumb and blind guy's  Alembic...and then see if I can still play 'the real me'....probably not . :shruggy:

Zon makes some amazing basses!

Unfortunately their prices are also amazing.

Amazingly high.

I have a Fender Power Jazz Bass "Special" I bought new back in "89.

It's a Precision body with a Jazz neck.

Pickups are one P-bass (neck) and one J-bass (bridge).

I believe it was one of the first Fender basses to offer active electronics.

Used to have a Ripper, but traded it for an "84 Explorer.

Have since put dual EMG 81s into the Explorer.

She's such a joy to play.

Did somebody mention SG's????

According to the serial number on the neck it's a 61-ish model, but from the pickguard, inlays, and bridge I think it's an early 70's model.  I cherish this thing almost moreso than my Charger.

This is my Gibby.  I have an ES-135 too but my Dad has claimed it, so no pics.  It's sunburst.  I have a "few" other guitars lying around too.  The only bass in the house is a Peavey Foundation but it's a nice enough piece.  The only tuxedo instrument I have is a Rickenbacker 325.
A close friend has a 68 SG Standard finished in that solid cherry red color.
I also have a small army of Strats around.

chrisII

strat brought up the esp bass, ive played several esp basses over the years. when i was in hs i used to play a buddys alot in our band. i currently switch between a "Vantage" 755B 5 string with active emg pickups, and a washburn "lyon" 4 string with maple fretboard. i love the tone of the 5 string and the neck is very thin with close string spacing, for fast heavy stuff. the lyon had great tone and plays awesome, basicly a maple fretboard P bass.  ive also got a new peavey melenium, but i got bored with it quick. nice solid bass, as is everything ive ever played from peavey.
the guitar player in the "new project" im working with plays a pink SG alot ..sounds prety kool just not sure bout the color.

When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

I have like 20 something guitars, never owned a SG before. I have a black 82 les paul standard and a white 89 custom plus a black 82 ES 335 dot. Also have a heritage H 140, which is the old gibson guys that stayed in michigan when gibson left, really nice guitar.

i gotta Lyon too.. white four string bass...   ;)
I also gotta fender Squire heavy metal 5 string...   ;D
you guys count the the PRS as a gibson?.. i do.. cause it sure as hell ain't fender related...  :P

chrisII

stratocharger, we got twins lol..bet mine was cheeper, i had $5 in it when i got done with the deal i made for it, with cord , gig bag and a nice strap. but then i went an replaced the origional strings.

Brock Samson

thought i'd give this a bump and I'll raise you a pic of my two newest axes,.. though neither are Gibsons..
first is a Mexican Strat. that plays remarkably well,.. must have been owned by a real player as it's set up perfect and second a mid '70s yamaha with an amazingly crisp tone from it's not standard electric light set of strings.. got the duo for $350.oo at the flea market and the seller threw in a clear lucite cane/walkingstick and a 20 year old coffee table book on supercars to clinch the deal, both axes came with cases too...

Ghoste

Cool, forgot all about this thread.  The MIM Strats are not bad guitars at all, I keep one around the house just for banging on.  Traded the 135 in on a new ES 339.  It's basically a 335 with a Les Paul sized body.

bordin34

Like I usually say with any Gibson guitar thread, Les Paul lives in my town.  :nana:

those are cool but why's it got dot inlays on the neck?..,  :shruggy:

Ghoste

You never heard of a 335 dot neck?  I don't think they had block inlays until about 62 or 65.  The 339 is newer model that is supposed to take some of the more desirable 335 features and put them on a smaller proportioned body.  It has a 59 style neck with the big clubby feel to it and the pups are the same as the 57 resissue LP's.  All in all a really nice guitar and perfect for my father.  He had prostate surgery in the early spring and between that and old motorcycle injuries,he just couldn't stand playing the 135 anymore.  The body was a little deeper and the shape just made it uncomfortable.  He has a Strat of his own but he never seems really satisfied with it either so I traded the 135 in on the 339 and now he's back to playing all day long again.  I've barely picked the thing up myself but we have a pretty liberal back and forth policy between us so it's all good.  :icon_smile_big:  (read that as I have a couple of his that he hasn't laid eyes on in a few years either )

o.k. i don't know alot about that stuff, i know a little about a lot of stuff, just enuff togit into trouble and piss alot of folks off...  :shruggy:

here's a pic of some of mine and that 5 string fender heavy metal squire i mentioned above..
