whatever.  I shoulda known my suggestion would be treated as some form of censorship.     It wasn't.  It's really more of a functional thing for the site.  I will admit - and you'll use this against me - that I'm sick of the GLs.  Even so, I've complimented jb666 on the fantastic work he's doing to his.

Anyway, I'd think if you're interested in the Dukes then you'd click over - everything Dukes in one spot!  Fans could easily miss a thread in the current format.  Why not collapse all the tech boards into one?  They still pertain to Chargers, right?  If you're interested in body work you shouldn't mind seeing threads about roller cams, right?  You don't have to read them.  There are 5 GL related threads on the front page of Charger Discussion.  What number do we need to get to before my suggestion makes sense?  6?  10?  15?

Maybe if this thread didn't come through in ALL CAPS, then I might have been able to keep quiet.

i somewhat agree,.. my beef is the pure number of chargers being cloned, some are very cool, like DUKETONA and i do appreciate folks who just bomb around in them as they please bringing joy to all the little children in the world,..
but damn, seems every other charger is orange with vectors,.. I didn't drink the cool aid,.. sorry,..

I agree too. I probably wouldnt have had any interest in buying a charger, let alone a 69 if it hadnt been for that show. I have NO interest in painting mine bright orange with an 01 and rebel flag on it but thats just me. I have serious reservations about painting mine orange at all cause i dont want people saying, Oh, theres a general lee!
But i guess it goes with having thats specific year car..

Ive seen many GL's since i live in GA. Mines just not going to be one too. I still have to say also that it does take hard work turning a charger into a GL so i have no hate for the people that do it. Your putting work into your car and its a hobby just like mine!

The Charger was never out of the spotlight in my eyes. I never watched the show ever, yet still fell in love with a Dodge Charger. That feeling has been with me since I was 12 (1982). The first Charger I ever saw was yellow w/green top. I thought it was the greatest thing on earth...I also bought that very car 4 years later.

If the boards start getting too overwhelmed with GL talk at the expense of other stuff, then I'd say go ahead and change things.  But IMHO that's not really the case right now.  There are several threads on there right now but a lot of times there is few or none of them.



The five threads about the GL on the front page include a couple of normal project-update threads about some members' cars that also happen to wear orange paint.  And one of the threads is complaining about a 3rd-gen incorrectly getting that paintjob when it shouldn't.

As a kid I did watch DOH religiously, but it was only because my dad had his 68 in the garage.  The DOH series only affirmed my opinion that the Charger was the baddest car on the planet!  The DOH did make the Charger cool to MOPAR novices and neophytes.  However I think the whole DOH clone car is truly overplayed.  I think that there are some really great cars out there that deserve a lil personality apart from DOH.  Does that mean I hate all GL's... no, I actually like them, however I get a bigger kick out of seeing a DMCL or a Bullitt car just because they are rare and therefore special, in my eyes. 

Just think if everyone that had a 1982 T/A converted it into a KITT... how boring would that be???

Sign a petition that allows the ongoing destruction of Charger's, Fury's, Gran Fury's, Coronets, etc? 

Yeah right. Maybe I'm a "Duke-ist" but I think the majority of people that go to those gatherings aren't even Mopar/Charger guys in the least. Most of them are just a bunch of yeeheerrr's stuck on a poorly acted '80s tv show that wasn't even mostly filmed in the south.

Really, what do people get out of watching a perfectly good car fly through the air and be completely obliterated? I can see some guy that's in his 40's now watching the event with his son like one of those precious father/son moments and he takes his hat off and salutes the 'Ol General with tears in his eyes like a military memorial as it leaps through the air and bumper first into the dirt. "See son, that's the General....be proud son." 

Just go meet at the Boars Nest, have one too many beers, and watch re-runs of the show and leave the cars alone. If you really want to see cars get wrecked, go to a demolition derby.

   for the most part.   Wish I would have had the chance to go to a dukefest even with out my general but i wont be going for the jumps anyway proably more for the atmosphere and meet and greet.

I don't think the only Chargers out there are GL's. It's just MY dream, and I don't try to jam that down anyone's throat... Love it or leave it is my theory!!

I, personally, love them all.. I'm not one of these people that'll tell someone (here especially) "your car's a load" or "Wow, why'd you trash your car like that?!?!". We're all here for the same reasons, these gorgeous cars....... I never understood all of the hard-headed negativity towards certain builds, but oh well, to each his own  

That said, I HAVE NO FREAKIN' DESIRE TO EVER go to a Dukefest. I consider myself a diehard fan, just not something I want to do.

As far as the GL/Dukes website(s) out there, I only know of one, and to say the least I won't be visiting that place.. It's like a group of dork Trekkies with Orange cars.. Get a life, people

      Don;t get me wrong I love the CARS - but i think the DOH is kinda like the Oakland Raiders...      the Team is alright but the fans give them a bad name...       Kinda look at the DOH the same way - I just think the whole GL thing is way overdone...     I mean if that is your dream awesome!  but I just don't see the appeal

From not existing anymore, it was said that due to a lack of numbers last year the 2009 dukefest would be canceled.

Last year's attendance was as high as several previous DOH events that were considered successful when they happened. 


The one in 2008 just became a "failure" when it failed to pull in much larger numbers than any DOH event ever has before.

Ah, I see.  So the hope is that the petition will get them to change their definition of a successful attendance number.  With things as they are this year, it may take a very large petition in order to do that because I think the numbers would be a lot lower this year anyway.

I have to admit it was pretty cool seeing them jump a GL the first year I went but I missed the others since I we had to catch flights.  Honestly after you see something like that once it isn't really necessary to see it again.  I went a couple of times when it was in Nashville since that is a great town to party in and I don't get a chance to get out much anymore.  It was cool seeing the cast there and they are all very nice...

That's kind of the feeling that a lot of people have.  


The thrill of seeing a GL jumping still hasn't worn off for me.  
I would prefer they stop it.  But if it's gonna happen either way then I might as well see it while I can.


It's no weirder than major pro sports fans.  Plenty of people find certain sports worth watching once but not repeatedly, others get really into them.

I think the majority of the hardcore DOH fans would like to see the jumping stop too.  But the events tend to rely on selling tickets to A LOT of local people at each location, and jumping an actual GL is more relevant to getting that audience showing up each time.  

They haven't been filling the stands with 10-20,000+ people just by getting the diehard DOH crowd.  (The diehards are a few hundred people, many on a first-name basis with each other.)

That, and the local fans of almost any car show or amusement park kind of deal.  It's generally not a drunken event.  Sobriety and kid-friendly stuff rules the day.   



The Charger flies for 3 seconds out of an entire weekend.  Most of the time it's a car show and other stuff.  The biggest ones have included rock/country bands playing, inflatable playground stuff, freestyle bike ramping shows, demo derbies, lawnmower races, etc. 

It's surprising how many people still spend hours in line just to meet the cast members 25 years after the show ended.   The DOH diehards usually got all their autographs years ago, but tons of eager locals still turn out every time.
