We went out to Abbotsford on Saturday for a family thing. On the way back (about 8pm)...my dad, me, my sister & her friend were in my dad's red Jeep Cherokee. His girlfriend & her 3 young kids were in her van. Anyways, we're on the highway cruising about 100km/h. This guy in a brand new Chevy Tahoe comes flying up and gets right on my dad's girlfriend's ass. Like seriously about 5-10 feet from her rear bumper. He almost runs her off the road before she had a chance to get out of the way. She moves into the other lane and the guy flies by here. Well, my dad got pissed and got right up on the Tahoe's ass. We blow by his girlfriend and we're like right behind this guy as he whips in and out of traffic. We had to go about 140km/h to catch up to him. This happened for about 2 minutes. We tried to get his licence plate number but couldn't. Anyways, my dad slows down and then decides to call the cops and report it. As we're on the phone with the cops, we watch the guy in the Tahoe up ahead passing people on the shoulder of the road and swerving in and out of traffic. He's getting right up on people's bumpers and basically pushing people off the road. We watched as the guy disapeared into the distance. He was going atleast 180 km/h. I said "wow, that guy is going to get into a serious accident somewhere soon". So my dad reports it and then we head to my grandparents house in New Westminster. My dad drops me, my sister & her friend off at my grandparents house and then heads to his house. Well, yesterday night he tells me the cops phoned him about 11pm that night (of the incident) and ask him to come down to the station. Apperentley the guy about 35 minutes down the road from where we ran into him...was involved in a serious accident involving several cars. The cops couldn't give much more for details. My dad ended up being there for 2 hours giving a statement. The cops did however ask the guy why he was going so fast and driving so erractily....his reply...."a red Jeep was chasing me". I got a good laugh out of that. I was weirded out when I found out about the crash. Karma is a bitch isn't it? Too bad other people had to be involved in that crash.

Tell your dad good job for me, most people don't bother to call that stuff in. Now they can tie your guys' complaint to the accident and anyone else who happened to call the prick in. Glad you guys didn't get into an accident with the tool bag!

mikesbbody

He cant say your Dad was chasing him! this guy was driving like a idiot before your Dad followed him to get his plate number. What a idiot! hopefully they throw the book at him. Glad you guy's didnt get hurt.

Landonsrt

Yeah im glad that ass got arrested. Bad thing is, someone else got hurt in the process more than likely.

400/6/PAC

What a Jerk.
I hope the other People wern't hurt to bad.

Back N Black

WOW! I think your dad should be arrested for reckless driving also, riding on someones bumper at 140 KPH with 3 kids in the car. Some guys actually said tell your dad good job. :slap:

I am undecided. As a person who detests slow drivers in the fast lane I feel that one shouldn't need to weave through traffic if the idiots would just drive like they are supposed to (ie. if I have to pass you on the right I'm not the idiot). My dad is one of those guys who'd rather slam on the brakes when tailgated than move the heck out of the way and I keep trying to explain what would happen if he gets "bumped" at highway speeds (punted into the guardrail or some other solid object most likely while the tailgater goes on with barely a scratch). Even if it's someone else's fault does it matter? My guess is this is what happened later on (probably by someone who felt it was their duty to dictate how others should drive). Either that or some numbskull thought it'd be a good idea to squeeze the gap.

Chasing someone who you think is driving badly is a horribly bad idea is well. Now there are two vehicles weaving through traffic in an "unsafe" manner so how does that improve the situation? Especially with passengers/children! I understand reporting the driver but chasing them in anger doesn't help. Not to mention, you don't know the mental state of the driver and tracking them down could get you wrecked, shot, or beaten.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

We tried to get the guys licence plate....when we couldn't, we gave up. Plain and simple.

I guess I'd recommend just letting the guy go but I know how riled you can get when someone does that. Depends on what your dad's motivation was. Did he want to beat the guy to a pulp and then get his license number? It probably would have been best to just give the cops a vehicle description rather than try chasing him down. My guess is that chasing him around might have made things worse, but of course hindsight is 20/20.

69bronzeT5

He wasn't trying to catch up to the guy to beat the pulp out of him, we were trying to get his licence number. But he started going faster than we wanted to go. The guy probally reached speeds of 180 km/h. We only went up to about 140 km/h before giving up.

Cody, most of us are probably a bit older than your Dad,  so here goes my  :Twocents: :Twocents:

I can see both sides. There's no doubt high speed driving can be dangerous.....(although, I'd probably want that license plate number also ....had it been me).

However, being an old fart (almost 42) I weigh situations differently, and error on more cautious side....compared to my younger days.

With that being said, in the heat of the situation it might be possible for me to react nearly the same way?  Possibly?  Who knows...?  :shruggy:

It's easy for us arm-chair quarterback this issue,  but knowing me like I do after all these years, I think I'd come to the same realization/conclusion that a license plate number wasn't worth it ...certainly based on the traffic/speed/risk factor involved.

Good thing you guys gave up chase, and used the cell phone to call the cops.... even without the license number.

Did you check to see if you could find a news story on this?

I did check quickly. With all the gang shootings & drug raids in the news, I doubt this will be there.
