It's not a bad book.  It's just that the volume of info on the internet tends to overwhelm the info in any one single book you could ever find.

But having something on paper in your hand is worth having.  I think as we get more into these cars, we tend to forget how many of the basic things you can't easily find out from the more in-depth sources.   Just the photos & descriptions in that book alone are a lot to soak up.

thats what i figured it'd be...of course DC.com has a million times the info...but as far as something tangible, i figured it'd be a decent book

I have the book also, its written by a Chevy guy, so if you are planning on a concours resto, its pretty much useless. Now for general info, and how to disassemble stuff, its pretty helpful, and the paint and body section has good tips/info. Like others have said, this site has a wealth of info that will help you. Seeing as how you already have the book, it should be somewhat helpful, if nothing else it will be good reading material while sitting on the shitter.

It was worthless... got it on ebay for 99 cents.

I have it too and I agree with Mike and jaak.

It's a good read, but you're not going to get everything you need out of it.

Todd Wilson

If you have never done body work and are thinking about tearing a Charger down its a good book to get so you can visualize what you are about to get into. It does touch base on some of the problem areas of the 2nd Gen Charger.  As for in depth how to, there is no book out there that covers it all. It takes skill and hands on to learn things. People all do things differently with the end result of having a nice painted car.

There is a weath of info on this site. There are many  people on here with lots of knowledge that are willing to help you out. There are also many people here that talk out their ass mostly. All experts with little to no hands on experience.

Larry Lyles is a good guy. He will answer questions and emails. He has helped me out several times answering questions. He watched the progress of my 71 Charger over the course of a few years. The next year he came to our Charger show and wanted to see my car. Remembered a year later. We talked heavily about the car. What I learned, what I needed to learn. The flaws that were on the car and how to make things better next time.

It takes a lot of time and work/hours to restore a car. It is a very physical hobby. You will be tired and sore in no time. The less knowledge and skill you have the more tired and sore you will be.

My cut is this... you will find more than a few things in the book that you will eventually say...man, i'm glad i had this book.

I've never read it but surely you will gain some valuable knowledge from some part of it.

If not that, then just reading the book will get you excited to work on your car. :2thumbs:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I've got the book. It's an ok read through a restoration of a 70 Charger from one mans perspective. But, You'll get way more info here than through the book.   Restoration, can be a long process if you do it yourself or have some of it done by someone else. One book isn't gonna do it for you.

ozziemoparnut

I got it I wouldn't consider it to be a bible on how to build a Charger or anything like that but it does have some good tips, pics etc that could come in handy  :2thumbs:

I wasn't looking for an end all be all of books, but more of something that can give me an idea of the tools, equipment, and things i would need to get started.  Basically a solid foundation, and then once things got rolling use this wonderful site and other resources for the more advanced stuff.  here are two other books i was looking at, they seem to have a basic starting point, the first is "How to Restore Your Collector Car 2nd Edition: by Tom Brownell, Jason Scott and the second is "How To Restore Your Muscle Car: Covers Chevy, Ford, Mopar, GM and AMC — Second Edition by:Greg Donahue, Paul Zazarine".  both of these books are by motorworks bookshop.  anyone hear of these?

Ghoste

It's less a story about restoring a Charger than it is a sort of general guide to the steps taken in restoring any old car.  You didn't waste your money buying it if you have never restored one before.  Basically, it's a source of info for the very things you said you were looking for, not a complete source but far from an incomplete one too.
Hey, at the very worst it has a lot of photos of a Plum Crazy 1970 Charger so how bad can that be?

TexasStroker

I'm going to go with Todd.

Larry is a member in Amarillo Area Mopars and an all around great guy.  He and his wife not only make our events, but get to travel around and hit up Charger events all over Texas and into Kansas as mentioned.  I do not think he wrote the book to cover every aspect of a 70 Charger, that would be a very thick book, likely in multiple volumes that would constantly be getting revised

I believe it is a good starting point and good for reference, particularly for anyone getting started.  As mentioned Larry answers questions and goes out of his way to help people out.  I can attest to his work and it is top notch.

He has spent a lot of time just giving me basic pointers and does the same for other folks.  That quality alone is worth supporting the guy.

I'm one who believes you can never know too much.  Get the book and enjoy it, there should be something that helps you out.  Even if you were to know everything in the book, it is still a book featuring a 70 Charger and has lots of pics, as mentioned that is pretty cool in and of itself  :2thumbs:

That's pretty much my thoughts on it, too. :yesnod:
I had heard that it wasn't the greatest even before I bought it, yet I still found myself underwhelmed when I got it. It's ok though & some of the pics will come in handy.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
