Greetings All,

I have been lurking on your site for a while.  I guess now that my website has been mentioned I should join.  You have a great site here with a lot of very, very interesting information.

I have been interested in the production numbers of Superbirds for a very long time.  I joined DSAC in 1978 when I was 13 because I had seen a Superbird in my hometown and, like many others, became obsessed with it.  I eventually bought the car and still own it.  It is the car in the Mopar Muscle magazine article titled Road Trip from a few years back.

I don't think we will ever really know exactly how many Superbirds were built but it is fun to guess at the number.  I will be adding more information to my site soon - mostly speculation on the various types of mistakes that could have occurred while transferring the data to the NASCAR list.

In respect to other owners I won't be adding information concerning particular cars.  My interest is only in quantity produced and the frequency of various options being added.

More data to come,
Brennan R. Cook
AKA: Arnie Cunningham

(I chose Arnie Cunningham as he was the character in the movie Christine that became obsessed with a Plymouth)

Greetings,

Yes my car is EV2, 4 barrel, 4 speed.  The unedited version of the journal used to write the article is on my website.  http://www.brcook.com/id6.html
It is two pages long and kind of a long read.

My car is much closer to original now.  The road trip was in 06.  We have had time to take it back to almost completely stock.  The correct carb made a huge difference.  It now has points ignition and the original 14" rallyes with repro tires.  We also decided to separate the nose from the fenders.  It had been brazed (sp?) and bondo-ed on by the original dealership before it was sold new.  Today the car appears very correct and drives like it would have back in 1970.

As you all know, one is never "done" with these cars.  There is always some small part to find.  But most of the really big obvious things are done.

Thanks,
Brennan R. Cook

Welcome to the board Arnie I toyed around with the daytona shiplist. But never took on the superbird list of #1920 numbers that you did :2thumbs: :2thumbs:Other then  a region sheet of states with superbirds they were trying to get off the lot .There wasnt to much info on the superbird numbers .As compared to the daytona list #501 numbers which state got 426 &440 in what numbers what dealers and what dealer code and dealer locations # job numbers double car listings to same dealer and etc mistakes .All obtainable from the daytona shiplist in its entirety
I did daytona 426-440 per state totals state

69 Daytona list per state totals going from the current standing list number to date #501 cars from pages supplied in my club newsletter that shows the new car shipments for 69 daytonas and locations shipped to Including serial numbers and dealer number and dealer location. Also shows what statms did and did not recieve a 69 daytona .Starting with the 440s AL-11 AZ-5 AR-2 CANADA 45 CA-38 CO-12 CON-2 DE-1 FL-16 GA-16 HAWAII-2 ID-1 IL-22 IN-21 IA-3 KAN-7 KEN-5 LOU-7 ME-1 MD-2 MASS-5 MI-26 MINN-3 MISS-1 MO-21 MONT-1 NEB-4 NV-2 NH-2 NJ-6 NY-26 NC-13 NDKT-1 SDKT-4.OH-25 OK-9 ORE-7 PA-23 RI-3 SC-4 TN-5 TX-20 UT-1 VT-1 VA-13 WA ST-7 WA-DC-2 W VA-1 WI-9-The 426 states AZ-1 CANADA-5 CA-7 CO-3 GA-1 IL-1 IN-1 KAN-1 MD-1 MI-2 MO-1 NY-1 NC-1 OH-3 PA-1 SC-1 TX-3 WVA-1 WI-1 .Total #501 465- 440 Hemi-36 for the 47 states 1 line was unreadable unknown state. 2 cars were 440 dodge exec cars with no dealer location in house cars and figured in with the MI total.Only #3 states didnt recie~e 69 Daytona on this current list Alaska-New Mexico-Wyoming

Im curious about seperating the similar sequences of vin groups .And see how it works out anyway geograhically.See if the vin by location where they were delivered follow any pattern or how many of that vin group went to same area.Thinking of some 410 cars went to Ca then 410 cars in TX.As in order by the way there were distributed and dropped off.?What we do know is that great number of daytonas that went to Canada are of the 414 sequence. Are there any other sequence vin groups in large or small numbers that just went to 1 particular area of which state and how many cars

The #1920 Nascar superbird list came to be available in or around 1977 from DSAC .Correct me If thats not the case.Thats what I thought anyway. The other list for the daytona coming out timeline.Again correct me if Im wrong

In regards to the shiplist. If I remember correctly in the time line order of events leading up to before Greg K had the #385 daytona shiplist. Is that Mighty Mopars Anthony Young had made mention in his book known as Mighty Mopars as the first daytona went to Kingston Ontario Canada and last Daytona went to Lafayette IN .It was right there I knew there was something of a document as to how Anthony Young could have dictated that order of those cars.It was later when I saw on a newsletter Greg K had the #385 list .But it wasnt totally available in its entirety.Just the page a particular car was on .That had the current info dealer # job # vin dealer and dealer location. At that time there wasnt away I knew of to get the full#385 list of dealer locations job number vin sequences to see how many daytonas 426 & 440 and what states they went.It just wasnt made available in its entirety. It wasnt till Anthony Young which know had a similar list but it know had #501 cars and made it available in its entirety .Thats how I recall it transpired .Correct me if I wrong .That how I believe it was as I recalled .If its incorrect in anyway .Please correct my mistake.

Greetings Nascarxx29,

I have not personally seen the Superbird/dealer region sheet you mentioned.  I will have to look around the web.  There may be some info on it I can cross reference.

I have some suspicion that the shipment of Superbirds was not completely random.  My car was sold new at Mandan Chrysler Plymouth in Mandan, ND.  Mandan Chrysler Plymouth (now gone) was part of the Corwin dealer group.  A green Superbird was sold new at Corwin Chrysler Plymouth in Bismarck, ND.  These towns are just a few miles apart.  My car and the green car have consecutive J numbers.  They also are identical twins other than exterior and interior color.  Both cars are: 440 4 barrel, 4-speed, buckets with buddy seat, tach delete, undercoating, 14" rallye wheel, door edge guards, am radio, no other options.  This can't be a coincidence.

The green car is still in Bismarck and undergoing restoration.  It is amazingly original.  I hauled the numbers matching engine and trans out to Todd Kramer of Fargo (the mechanic that put my car back on the road).

Has anyone else out there found any J code consistencies?
Thanks,
Brennan R. Cook

Greetings Scott,
Yes I am still in Las Vegas.  I was back in ND for a month taking care of loose ends.  Got to finally see the work done on my car lol.  It is still in Fargo.  Todd is taking it to some of the local shows.
Hope the new job is working out,
