'67 Coronet progress (5/2/2010 Burnout Video)

I thought I'd post a progress picture of my Coronet. The picture makes the car look much worse than in person. I'm taking it down to bare metal and I'm extremely happy with how nice the body panels are, really straight and no rust. I test primed that spot on the fender and it came out really nice. I got the 440 running. The motor is insane, it was way too loud with the open headers for street driving so I put exhaust on it as well. I also had the rear seat recovered.

When I'm done it's going to be blue with black interior, slot mags, super stockish hood scoop and I'm going to paint the hood inlay white. Going for a street/strip street brawler look. I've got some stuff I need to add like super stock leaf springs, torsion rods, etc... I'm trying to get as much done as I can before school starts, I won't be at the house anymore so progress will most likely slow a lot.

When I got it:

How much did you pay, looks solid, what state is that in? LEON.

Yeah me and my dad are doing the body work. Its going to be pretty close to B7 blue.

Harlow

Just a quick update for you guys. I tracked down a 4.30 geared sure grip center section and got that installed. The body work is coming along nicely the only thing left to do is to patch the passenger side quarter and replace the trunk extension. I got the trunk extension and lower quarter patch panel in the mail yesterday. Today we're going to get started on that.

4.30 gears !   :o   That's alot of gear.   :yesnod:   Looking good.   :2thumbs:

Brock Samson - I like the way its sitting lower int the before pic but, as you noticed that rear tire is tiny.

Silver R/T - That was the original plan but now I'm debating between blue and silver.

terrible one

Wow dude, looks good! But shit, what speed will you top out at with 4.30s?!  :scratchchin:

Ghoste

I think you should stay the course with the blue. :Twocents:

thats what I'm leaning towards as well. The engine bay was already painted when the motor was installed. Blue would be the easiest route. Plus I think it looks pretty good with the black stripe.

We got the rotted trunk extension and rotted lower quarter out today and our patch panel is cut and ready to go. I had to make a trip to buy a welder, pneumatic flange/punch tool, and some other supplies. I'm going to try to have it all tacked on tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. Just taking it a step at a time.

The old quarter. Someone had squeezed tons of bondo in to fill in those holes. It looks like they used a caulking gun.

Then a few pics of the old panels along side the replacement panels.

Harlow

We got the quarter patch and trunk extension welded in. Did a batch of filler today, just needs a little more work. It's getting pretty close to paint.

The body work is real close to being done. The trunk just needs a little more feathering. The next step before paint will be to finally get it out and drive it. Its only idled in the garage, never driven. This way it will be easier to move around between locations.

I'm proud of you!!!  Tackling a job like that isn't easy, and it looks like your doing a great job. Nice car!

Heres a new update pic. The engine runs awesome now and it sounds wicked. Tons of kinks needed to be worked out, rewired etc... I love 4.30 gears :drive: The body is pretty much done now I just need to finish off the hood scoop I just set it on there, I'm deciding not to paint it right away so I'm in the process of putting it back together. I got the corner pieces in on the rear quarters, taillights and tail panel installed today.

Cooter

Harlow, seeing your car remionds me of the story of my first car that was not to be back in 1987....There she was a 1967 Coronet R/T, red, with a crunched left front fender, sitting on a gas station's lot For Sale....I went to look at it and my best friend in HS had a 1966 Coronet, so I REALLY wanted this red 440 4-speed car BAD! I tried and tried to drive that thing but just couldn't get the straight drive thing going so, the owner, a tall skinny, mid 20's guy said "Here, lemme show you what it'll do"..Well, My mom was in the back seat with my little brother and when he stomped that thing it got all crossed up and BANG! 2nd gear still sideways, BANG! 3rd, still sideways..I can still hear Mom hollarin' "Woah! Too MUCH MOTOR! TOO MUCH MOTOR! I called back two days later and it was gone.... :'( :icon_smile_angry:

Car looks good. :2thumbs:.One question: Are you gonna run that exhaust out the rear?
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Harlow

Nice story cooter.

The exhaust exits right in front of the rear tires. Its actually very subtle when you're standing looking at it. I like it for the time being...

Scott,

Car looks great.  If you need a nice grille center I've got one.  You should join the Tucson Mopar Club as well.

The coronet is coming along. I took it out for a few tuning passes up the street today. We got the rechromed rear bumper put on and the front end put back together. The car hauls ass. Its a blast to drive.
