I have some copper accents on my house and wish to make them shine. The standard metal cleaners are to weak, do not work. So I tried one half salt and one half flour mixed with lemon juice and it worked great. Now I need to use it on the cupola which is above the asphalt shingles. Will the salt hurt the shingles?

:scratchchin: Umm,..... why do you want to remove the natural patina?  :shruggy:   :brickwall: :brickwall:

IF this is a serious question, and my roofer buddies have their doubts, they said to try vinegar. If salt is your weapon of choice, they can't imagine any harmful effects, but just in case then vacuum the shingles of any residue. Then again what do they know 'cause they are currently deep into a keg of Sierra Nevada IPA.

Ketchup!

TRUE! Actually it's the vinegar in the ketchup, but the pasty texture makes it better than regular vinegar because it will stay where you smear it so that the vinegar can do it's thing.

But, like Mrs. Skip alluded to: most people want that green patina It is a natural protection for the copper. If you clean it off, and want to keep it shiny, you'll need to clear coat it.

Here's a picture of a church here in my City. All that green is copper.

Hey dodgecharger-fan. That is one fantastic roof. You folks do things right across the border.

Is there a Chrysler paint code for it? It would real good on a bunch of Mopars.  :yesnod:

If every one squints a little, you could get away with some blend of F3 and Q5. :D

I grew up a couple of doors down from that church. Learned to ride a bike in the parking lot. Played many a ball hockey game there, and the hill on the other side of the parking lot was the tobogganing hill in the area - not huge, but good enough to break a bone or two each year (not mine, though.)

It's still there and still looks the same - that picture could even be recent, I just found it on the 'net.
