How should this corner look like normally? Before I took the car apart that area, beeing the visible backside of the molding was filled with
hard "cement" painted in bodycolour. The car didn't have vinylroof when I bought it so can somebody show me a pic on how it should look
because leaving it like that even with some vinyl in between will make it leak some water I guess. :scratchchin:

The moulding isnt sitting right, doesnt follow the body line of the car  :scratchchin:

This is a good point...water gets in there and rust grows under the trim. That's where my car has rust holes, from there forward...just under the trim!

I think my '69 has the hard cement but I could be wrong. I'll take a picture when I get home later today

Per this is a shot of mine that I could dig up....
I'm not agreeing with r_biccum since my original molding sits very much the same. But as you stated, it's kinda filled with a sort of putty where in my case the vinyl top was glued onto.....

This is not my car. Saw it on a local show, and made me decide to shave my driprails!! Does not look right as it is!!!
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

terrible one

Mine sits the same as per's and the red car above. Most I have seen have that gap. Playing with it, it is obvious that the fit it is not going to get any better than that. when I took mine off the only cement/putty was some of what looked like the same thing as what fills the drip rails.

Belgium R/T -68

I agree Jacksson, propably wouldn't get any better. I have to wait and see when my vinyltop is on, then I can start "play" with it.

Yup, I was wrong....however, it looks like there is something on the driver's side. Passenger side there's not. :shruggy:

Hmm Cody I wonder if that spot is factory or something a previous owner put on there in a stop leak attempt? Have you messed around with it? :shruggy:

Who knows :shruggy: Nope, haven't messed around with it.

so what can one do so there's no leak? I'm also curious about after market trim, if it helps with the "problem rust areas" such as the back window.

Made me look.  Mine is factory original & unmolested.  The backside of the trim is exposed
& rust is starting to form :brickwall:

Yup that's how I noticed mine...when I pulled off the trim along the window the rust was all over the place, even down the lip for the window seal, Swiss Cheese  :eek2: I don't think the "inside" of that area ever got any paint from the factory ether.

Is this trim piece used to keep the water out of the inside trim if it leaks through.Couldnt get a pic so here is a link with the pic.

I think that piece is just used as a guide to protect the rear side windows from touching the sheet metal. I'm pretty sure I saved a set from a '70 Sport Satellite parts car.

Here is one of my Chargers

Back N Black

My car looks the same as the pics above. This is the last part of my restoration and it pisses me off the way the trim and door glass fit and seals on these chargers. If it was the first part of my restoration, i don't think i would have put so much time and effort in the restoration.  :brickwall:
Sorry for the rant.

That is just the way that part is made.  On the back of it where it touches the body was black seam sealer on both my Charger and GTX.  They really stand out with no vinyl roof but that is the way it goes.  Don't forget to put the sealer in there or they will leak.

I couldn't get a good, clear pic of mine....but I measured mine...(keeping in mind, it used to have a vinyl top) and I have exactly 1/4 inch between the sail panel and the INSIDE of the trim moulding.  That first pic....with the rivet showing....that, to me, definately looks like it's sticking out way too far.  I'm assuming that wasn't an exact science running through the assembly line as I see lots of pics posted here with that distance varying.  The only solution I can see to bring that closer to the body is to cut the drip rail off and trim it a little and tack it back on...in other words....remove some material.  Before prep and paint of course.  Maybe some good pics of an originally non-vinyl car could provide some answers.
