My speedo on my '68 is noisy and bouncing all over the place and I'm afraid I'm going to get nailed for speeding!  I have replaced the cable but it didn't fix it.  Do I need to have the speedo rebuilt? :shruggy:

What you need to do is unhook your housing from the back of your spedo head, take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull your metal cable out of housing and lubricate it with white lithium grease, it might come out from the trans end also, you might have replaced it but lubricating it should solve your problem..

:brickwall:  will that also help the speedo to read correctly?  It seems my speedo says 90 and the car beside me is doing 60. How can I fix that?

Once you get your speedo working smoothly you may have to change the speedo pinion in the trans to one with the right amount of teeth for your axle ratio and tire height.

How do I get my speedo fixed?  Is there a place that will rebuild the head?

If you switch yours gears or tire size and you think your speedo is out to lunch you need a different tranny gear at the end of your speedo cable I had a 27 tooth gear went from a 276 rear end to a 355 and 14s to 15s and had to go to a 34 tooth gear and now it is bang on I was doing 90 and cars were still passing me now it says 60 and other cars are evenly spaced from me

There are a couple place's that can rebuild the speedo.
A google search will show a list.
I had mine done by auto instruments.
A cheaper way is to find another speedo and change the odometer to match what mileage was on the old one.

If there is an old auto electric place in your hometown they may also have the equipment to recalibrate it or know someone who does.  A lot of those places did back in the day.  Not so much the alternator rebuild places but the ones that were more like "Joe's Auto Electric Service" or whatever.
