They might as well have Hummer. They own everything else in this country.

Swell. ::)

Ok, so any guesses on how many months before we start seeing multiple Chinese made cars being sold here? Many shoppers complain about a lack of quality on the American made cars, let's see how they like the quality control on the Chinese jewels. :rotz:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yea, but isn't Hummer different from AM General? Hummer being the Commercial vehicle and AMG making the mil spec one?  :shruggy:

Yes. Not sure about the H3 though because IIRC the plant you're referring to only makes the H2. The H1 will still be made "in house."

H3, H3T plant in Shreveport, LA is affected.....I imagine Colorado/Canyon will be discontinued prior to the Chinese coming in.

We've been giving them the capital and the infrastructure for years now, it shouldn't take much longer before they control most of the worlds economy.

Its quite amazing what you can do with cheap labor, a lack of human rights, and an oppressive government. Of course, we line up like cattle to buy that stuff so I guess you get what you pay for eh?

Yep, it's our own fault.  (seems like most empires through history have been built on the back of some form of human exploitation huh?)

bakerhillpins

I recall reading that some of the other Asian countries (Taiwan comes to mind) that used to be the sources of cheap labor are less and less attractive to that segment of mfg because the standards of living are rising. Which of course means that labor rates rise. This is all relative though.

I don't completely agree that this is "our" fault per se. People demand inexpensive products, sure, but because wages have not kept up with inflation for several years we have little choice. Basically, big businesses have capitalized on this by shipping jobs overseas and continuing to pad their wallets with the proceeds. And now it's become a self-perpetuating quagmire where now our only two choices are cheap junk or high-priced items of mediocre quality. Seriously, why not buy a Chinese car if it's going to last as long as a Chevy at twice the price?

Ghoste

Wages haven't kept up with inflation because business wants their employees to compete with a place like China.  Oddly enough, the people who make these decisions don't seem to have had any trouble at all maintaining their own wages.  In fact, corporate upper level compensation packages have exploded in recent years.
It's is our fault and every time we walk into a Wal-Mart because a box of nails are 50 cents cheaper than "Joe's Hardware", we help the situation to feed itself.
I am as guilty as anyone of buying cheap Chinese made crap but so far I have refused to buy into the myth that anything made over there is somehow inherantly better than products made on shore.  Especially cars.
Will I someday buy a Chinese car because it's half the price of a Chevy?  Not likely dfbut I somehow doubt those options will be available for me.  What you see as a purchasing freedom of choice is slipping away right in front of us.
And if you think gas is getting expensive now, just wait until the Chinese control it.

Oh because that would only serve to continue to perpetuate the quagmire, that's why. :eek2: Besides, I can't imagine the Chinese cars are anywhere near as good as Chebby's currently are. They look like they're more in the realm of a Yugo to me...but they will bring them in & we short-sighted idiots will buy them, just because they're cheap.

In my situation I have little choice but to buy cheap or not at all. My wife doesn't work except for sporatic part-time jobs and today's prices are geared toward two-income households. It's been that way for the past several years in fact. We're frugal enough that we can do as well or even better than families with two incomes but I've never bought a new car, I don't have cable TV, etc. When I buy Charger parts it's a luxury so I have to save for months and work overtime when I can. That's why it's taken me five years so far. Still, it's usually "buy only what we need" and when we do buy it usually has to be average or below average quality stuff because the price of decent items has jumped beyond our reach.

We are becoming that here! Maybe we will start the move to be back on top! Wages are down, rights are not what they used to be and our government is oppresing things!
