What type of putty to use??

I am restoring a 68 charger and I saw on TV a guy used a putty  to thin coat the whole car to take out minor imperfections and low spots. I don't know what it's called? Anyone know what I'm talking about? Or anyone know what is best to use?

Glazecoats shrink- I wouldn't reccomend using them.
