Any computer nerds among us? I need to know... Mac or PC?

OK Troy, you got me on the DMG thing... :P

Here's the flip side to the coin (now that I've championed Mac sufficiently  :icon_smile_wink:) I have been wanting to get into Maya 3D for 3D animation creation and game development...which only runs in a PC environment,, which leads me to PS2 emulation to play with and testing some of the game ideas I have, and finally also interested in DVD copying for back-up...none of which can be accomplished on a Mac. So, I have been playing with the idea of buying myself a PC, or having one built. So obviously, there really isn't ONE good answer to the question about which platform to buy.

Hey! I have Maya from school... shame that I have no artistic talent whatsoever and no idea how to actually accomplish anything inside the program. Better get a PC with lots of horsepower for that. I have used Rhino with the same sad results. Last time I checked there were very few 3D applications for a Mac. The art director at my last job used some ancient thing for rendering because it was the only one that worked right. He was always complaining about that but I didn't really understood what he was talking about until later.

I want a G5 but I have absolutely no good reason to purchase one. Maybe I could write it off as "research and testing"... :D At one point I was determined to learn Cocoa but other things got in the way.

Bill, I talked to the Mac guys at work and they tipped me off to this:

Maya ® System Requirements
Recommended Minimum System Requirements
Windows ® XP Professional or Windows  ® 2000 Professional (service pack 2 or higher)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 WS
SUSE Linux 9.3
Apple ® Mac ® OS X 10.3.9 or higher

I was going to say that the new Maya 3D will work on a Mac.

Hey and if your looking at a G5 Troy I'd go with the new quad 2.7. We are running a Dual 2.5 and its great for video editing and such. I use a PC for my personal use, but the Mac we use for video and photography.

When your touching up photo's in my opinion you can't beat the mac. Or if your working in video in my opinion you can't beat a mac. As far as data base goes, well a pc is tops there. For personal use, i'd go with a pc because of a big difference in price range. However some of the mac's aren't that expensive. I believe that my mom just picked up a Imac with a 20" screen, for around $1,500.

Great info! It's been MONTHS since I looked into Maya, apparently too long. I'm going to check out prices, or maybe I'll ry to find a trial version first to see if it really interests me.

Better save some of those other coins that people don't seem to care for these days too.

Anyone else notice that hardly anyone carries any cash on them any more, let alone spare change?
