We built them on VW beetle chassis when I was young, and for some extra power we occasionaly used the 1600cc VW Van engine
or in extrem cases a Porche engine. :2thumbs:

If you're looking for something to hit the dunes with there are many better choices. However, I have the feeling that's not your goal.

nope I just allways wanted one as a general grocery getter,.. it's green  :icon_smile_wink: and a stick and i just think it would be alot of fun,.. everyone should own at least one standard trans and one green car in their lives..
it's about 40 miles south of me and i am looking forward to checking it out...

There's a few of those still kicking around up here.

I've always liked them, as well. however, they are seriously impractical here. If you really push your luck, you get maybe 5 months out of the year where it would be fun to drive or ride in something like that. Even the, you'd be wearing a jacket for the better part of two of those months.

but if I had the room...

If it's an original, they're really starting to go up in value.  I see them starting to show up at exotic & classic car shows where they're warmly received.

Always loved the dune buggies.  I know where one is sitting in a barn, I have to swing by there one day.  My only issue is I have no money.  :P
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Khyron

I had one years ago, it had a Corvair V6 in it .... it was scary

Sold it when I moved :(

Old Moparz

My friend's Father built one back in the early 70's from a VW chassis, & my friend would always have it out on nice days. I was the same color geen as the one in the ad, but it had no top. It was a stock VW with a 6 volt electrical system. It was a blast to ride around in, except for that one 3 hour trip that turned into a 4 hour trip to the NJ shore. We got beat up from the wind & noise on the highway, got baked in the sun when we sat in traffic, then felt like our heads were vibrating for hours when we finally did get out.

I didn't know it until this past spring when my friend & I went to Carlisle, but they sold it.  :'(

I would've given it some serious consideration about buying it for my wife. She & my daughter would've loved riding around in it & getting 30+ MPG.

By the way, they're giving one away at the Carlisle Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals this year.
