I'm wanting anyones two cents...... I have an open title to my 69 from the around 92...When I bought the car back then I didn't sign my name on the title, then sold it and the guy who bought it from me didn't sign it either. Now I have the car and title again still open as it was way back just waiting for my name. I'm thinking when you buy a car that has been in a barn or in the woods for 20 some years you aren't paying back taxes from the last time it was tagged or are you?

Don't think so. I've registered two 66's that sat awhile and didn't pay back taxes.

i live in Kansas i bought two non-running  1968 Buick GS California's 5 years ago with no titles just with bill of sale from the guys i bought them from i just had to pay that years taxes in Kansas if a car over 30 years old it classified as a antique no back taxes apply. you could just make up a bill of sale on your charger and run it trough that way to get around the tag office they run a back ground on the car to see its not stolen i even had them put a hwy title on my cars to keep away from having the hwy patrol inspection when it was to time to put it on the street.
also antique tags in Kansas are only $17 year that includes the taxes that's why you see everyone running them on there trucks & cars.

Antique tags (IMO ) costs more.  They bill you every fall for Property taxes and I felt it saved me no money.  :Twocents:

In MN collector plates are a one time set fee (about $100 when first registering) but I suspect our politicians just haven't caught on to that yet.  If you've owned the car for a year before switching to collector plates it's about $25 one time.  I've had a few of my Chargers 15 years or more so that's saved a couple bucks.

Personalized plates are another $100 one time.

If the car is over ten years old regular plates are $41.50 anyway.  Curious about how other states do it.

Yes, that process does work as I had that happen to me back in the mid-90s with one of my vintage Mustangs (It took two years to get the title from the seller as he had lost it and did not want to apply for another, so I had to wait until he found it in his "office" pile of paperwork, ie ratpack pile).  Unless the rules have changed since then, the DMV collects the taxes for what you present them at that particular time.  I know you can register your car with the year of manifacture plates for an additional fee in Kansas.  The only glitch is getting the correct county plate if you want to be that specific.  I thought that the antique tags were a one time fee thing.

When you take it to the tag place you'll pay the property tax and the license tag fees. They'll take your money and title and send you a new one in 4 weeks.   Antique tags will save you $$$ in the long run. Used to be 40$-50% a year to tag each of my chargers and now its 17$ a piece.

Maybe it's a county tax, that did not save me any money.  :Twocents:

I'm just worried that back in early 90's I didn't sign the title and now I don't have my bill of sale, I don't know if it matters or not. I guess the fact that I have the title with the sellers name even though close to twenty years ago there won't be any question the car is mine, because I worry about that too....... :scratchchin:

Yeah they may question the date being so long ago. You used to have to have a notorized bill of sale but they have done away with that and both parties sign the title now. I dont know if they will want the old way since your title is from 92 or what.

I live in Reno County  one of the highest property tax countys in the state. It was a no brainer when the Chargers became 35 years old.  The first time fee is way more then a regular car tag and tax  and if you plan on keeping your antique vehicle for many years it will be way cheaper.

I'm in Butler, the last two trucks I have bought out of state and boy oh boy, both have been a nightmare with the DMV so that's why this Charger deal scares the begeebees outta me! :icon_smile_blackeye:
