Just hypothetically, is there any reason to think that a Chrylser concept car from let's say the early 60's would have any other finish on it than Cosmoline?  I realize it's a bizarre question that likely no one can answer with any accuracy but it's one of those raging debates that seemed important last night out at our shop.  You know, one guy says all Mopars had Cosmoline, then someone says what about concept cars, and then someone else says what about early concepts.  Stupid but if someone has an answer I'd like to know.

Good question...I'd think concept cars could even have them chromed. (How cool would that look!)  :scratchchin:

Not chrome, the debate is whether they were Cosmoline or black.  There may or may not be an actual pair that we are arguing about.

Concept car huh? What are you boys playing with out there? I would start with a base coat of POR15 then powdercoat it then 10 coats of base clear and wet sand for 3 weeks...then I would throw myself in front of Donna Summers tour bus in shame.

Are there any traces of anything anywhere on them? I would go with the cosmo. A lot of concept cars started as normal production cars or at the least utilized "parts bin" components....in the mid to late 60's anyway. The 50's and early 60's were more "carefully" assembled because they were the rage - the competitive frenzy peaking during that era.

No help was I!

Are you going to Streetsville?

Didn't Cosmoline start in the mid 60's?  My '64 GT has painted LCAs, and it's a 72,000 mile unrestored, non-rebuilt suspension car.  I've heard about other earlier 60's cars with painted LCAs.  I guess someone could have rattle canned them at some point.

thinking about this some more , seem to recall reading  that some lower control arms came black , depending what vendor made them  , also think it might of been to do with over the counter replacements :scratchchin:

I think I saw something over on MoParts about steel or cosmo, but that didn't cover concepts. The debate continues....
